Add to the list of Lefty trillionaire producers who can finance movies without making money, the names of Mark Cuban and Todd Wagner. Cuban we all know from his antics as an NBA owner who behaves badly because no fine will hurt him.
Wagner and Cuban own 2929 Entertainment and---GET THIS---these rich pricks have somehow gotten around the old Supreme Court Consent decree which forbad production, studio, theatre ownership combines. I guess that stuff is for everybody but Lefty millionaires. Wagner and his former Broadcast.com partner Mark Cuban own 100% of Rysher Entertainment, Landmark Theaters (the nation's largest art-house chain, with 59 theaters in 22 markets which guarantees them a 59 theatre release of amything they produce), and Magnolia Pictures Distribution; they also hold an interest in Lions Gate Entertainment. Add to all that, ownership of two movie production companies, 2929 Productions and HDNet Films, along with HDNet and HDNet Movies, two general entertainment high-definition television networks available on most major cable and satellite providers.
Cuban executive produced both the pro Palistian Terrorist epic, The War Within and the anti-McCarthy rant, Good Night and Good Luck. Now this guy Wagner is much less an idealogue than some of the other skillionaires but he sleeps with George Clooney on many of Clooney's Lefty enterprises.

Howard, both of the Uber-lefty movies you referenced did quite poorly at the box office according to box office mojo. I live in the heart of red state America (Texas) and only one person in my circle of friends and colleagues saw either film and that's only because she's a fool for Clooney. If these looney leftists want to keep throwing money into making movies that only their hard core cohort sees, what's the big deal? Hollywood has pretty much lost its hold on their prime target demographic 18-35yo males to the Internet and computer gaming. I'm personally more concerned about the leftist indoctrination and total lack of critical thinking skills this same demographic ends up with from our totally broken school system. Hollywood and the Lame Stream Media are well along in their death throes with declining box office and plummeting veiwers & readers. I think it's a mistake to underestimate the influence FoxNews, Rush, Hannity, right wing blogs and even your voice behind enemy lines has on the culture. But then my perspective is that from here in Texas where dems and libs are clearly a source of derision and laughter. Give us folks in the red states a bit more credit as we recognize the treacherous crap these rich traitors try to foist off on us. BTW, thanks for continuing to post. Agreed: Better that they spend their money on propaganda that nobody watches than on something that could do some real damage.
Re: Consent decree. Would that apply to entities that didn't exist (or aren't successors to existing defendants) at the time the decree was issued? I'm sure that 2929 and Landmark didn't exist in 1947. Of course the JD's Antitrust Division might be interested in this subsequent vertical integration, and if the Republicans were any good at playing hardball it WOULD be. However...
Told you so, Howard, in a post a few weeks ago. All the multiplex theaters are owned by a few firms which in turn are controlled by the Hollywood content providers.
How did I know? Cuz none of the movie theater firms are rebelling against thw dogfood they're being fed.
Old Grouch is right: the so-called consent decree probably only applies to entitities that existed way back then. Ever since, everybody has taken the consent decree blah-blah for granted.
