THE TYRANASAURUS REX CALLED FREEDOM STOMPS THROUGH THE MIDDLE EAST

Two Revolutionary Ideas Clash in a Fight to the Death.

Terrorism is simply a part of a revolution; a revolution against the West. Some of the other parts are the funding of "chairs" at various universities in America, the implantation of sympathetic groups---CAIR---into the political systems of other countries, and a propaganda campaign through sympathetic press. What are we to do? Are we to be like Rome when Christianity started to spread from the Middle East? Are we just latter day Hapsburgs quaking in fear at the French Revolution and Napoleon? Is this era a rerun of Europe and America refusing to believe that the rantings of Mein Kampf were actually happening?

Many of the smart guys observe that there is no central state sponsoring Islam. Oh? There was no central state sponsoring Christianity either. Nor Martin Luther and Protestantism. What central state sponsored the American Revolution? Revolutions have no sponsoring state, that is why they are called revolutions.

Revolutions are “sponsored” by unstoppable ideas; Nazism, Communism--- before Russia---and Democracy were almost impossible to stop once they took hold. They are like tidal waves that only recede once the force behind them is spent or when the countries and institutions who are their targets finally react or surrender. The only way to stop an unstoppable idea is with a better idea, spread by force of arms if necessary, and force is always necessary because both ideas are their opposite.

We need to wake up to the fact that Freedom is the Tyrannosaurus Rex of all ideas. Freedom is a revolution too. The idea of Freedom is the only thing that can work in this mis-named War Against Terror. That is why we need to pay serious attention to the things Bush is saying.

Henry Kissinger observed in his widely read analysis of diplomacy A World Restored that coalitions against revolutions have usually come about only at the end of a long series of betrayals. That is because the powers which represent legitimacy cannot “know” that their antagonist is not amenable to “reason” until he has demonstrated that he is not. And he will not have demonstrated it until the international system has already been overturned. Those times in history where peace---defined as the avoidance of war--- has been the preeminent concern of primary powers, the international system has been at the mercy of the most ruthless. How many betrayals by Arafat were enough for the European powers? Apparently there was no betrayal limit to the welfare drugged Europeans and they ended up siding with Islam rather than fight. The upset has begun as we can see from the now rampant anti-Semitism, both in Europe and within our own University system. The movement toward free elections in the Middle East, represent the counter revolution sponsored by America. The clash of ideas has begun without the Welfare State Europeans who are concerned only with their own comforts.

It has been observed by more than one famous diplomatic observer that it is impossible to settle international disputes where revolution is central through the use of “good faith,” because in a revolutionary situation neither side can see the good faith of the other. In these situations many will see the early demands and writings of the revolution as tactics or rhetoric; any who warn of the impending danger are accused of being “alarmists,” unilateralists, or in today’s language, “cowboys.” Appeasement is actually a refusal to deal with a policy or idea that has unlimited objectives. Europe today looks at Islam and focus once again upon their own concerns: pensions, paid vacations, and short work weeks and they are overwhelmed in the face of unlimited objectives---Freedom and Islam---so they do what is natural for them: appease, attempt to make deals that when violated yield to more bargaining resulting in deals that the revolution has no intention of honoring.

Islam has unlimited objectives. Just read what they say. They are not just singing the latest pop music hit when they say they want a world of Islam. Europe has no objectives at all beyond the maintenance of their own Welfare State. The “New European Idea” is not an idea, it is simply state sponsored self indulgence; government care for everything.

On the other hand Islam has God. God is a bigger idea than self. God will pay attention to the downtrodden, the poor, and the helpless. God will show the way to a better life if you follow "the path" both now and in the after life. The West represents the ghettoization of Muslim immigrants, the destruction of their religion, and the deliberate looting of their heritage; the priceless Rosetta Stone sits in London, the priceless beyond belief Hammurabi Code resides in Paris; other priceless works of Arab antiquity reside in Western museums outside of Islam including the huge collection at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. Every item in every collection was looted from Islam by the West.

We are seeing an Islamic revolution. Revolutions are always dangerous because they upset the international system. Note that the “terrorist” threat has upset our alliances with Europe and changed our relationships for the better with India and Australia. Certainly this new Muslim threat represents to the poor a revolution against the prior Western domination of their lives. Since Napoleon---revolutionary France---beat Egypt and began the destruction of Muslim domination everywhere outside of the Middle East. Through every war until the fall of the Soviet Union the West has dominated the Middle East in every way. Arabs have made nothing, invented nothing, their military is a joke, and only their religion holds them together. Bernard Lewis describes the modern day Arab entering a coffee shop designed in European fashion, with wooden table and chairs of European origin, all the clothing worn by everyone in the shop comes from Western design, the TV he watches is an American invention, the radio a European invention, the newspaper he reads is a European idea, and even the Ethiopian coffee he drinks is processed by either European or American owners and the Arab sips his coffee from a Western made cup. They spend their days angry at what they see.

It is not difficult to imagine the Muslim terrorists as an arm of the revolution. Pure Muslims want to get rid of everything Western...um, er, ah, except for developing the bomb, using computers, and getting rich by robbing the West. The exportation of Islam is typical of every revolution in history, especially including our own. All revolutions seek to export their ideas by force. Are they stopped by containment, destroying the source, or with a better idea exported with equal fervor?

The only other way to stop a revolution is through time. Time spent under the yoke of the revolution til rescued. Looking to western democracy, we first had the American idea, exported through Tom Paine into France where the Rights of Man (from England) exploded the monarchy system; don't forget that Jefferson overtly supported Robespierre. The Russian revolution threatened every capitalist based system on earth and destroyed many of them. Going back to ancient Greece all observers outside of Athens thought the Athenians to be the most aggressive and dominating force in the world, one that was run by a mob, and until the Peloponnesian War Athens style elite democracies of various sorts dominated. Rome dominated for almost three hundred years until the non-centralized Christians led a world wide revolution.

Any of us who suppose that a revolution can be contained, reasoned with, or bargained with doesn’t understand what all revolutions really are: ideas spread by force, especially including revolutions that demand freedom. Revolutions aren’t revolutions without armed force. Bush is right, in order to stop "terrorism" we have to fight for the purpose of imposing freedom on others.
