The LA Times, believe it or not, has a very good piece on Ashley Smith, the heroine in the surrender-capture of Brian Gene Nichols, the Atlanta courthouse murderer Right here. I ventured an opinion that the time line was so strange that many suspected that they might have had a sexual relationship before surrender. This would appear to be erroneous, but her background is very interesting, a fall to the bottom and rise to the top story. I hope she makes a ton of money.
.....the world has come calling for this 26-year-old waitress, a woman who struggled with alcohol addiction and voluntarily gave up custody of her daughter because she couldn't provide her a stable home. .......She has had a long, and redemptive, round trip. Wanna bet those left wing atheists in Hollywood will do the story right?
She was arrested on drunk driving charges in 2001 and again in 2002 because of a suspended license. In 2003, she was arrested on a charge of violating probation and again on a charge of battery — a charge that was later dropped — against Croft. That summer, she signed a court order transferring custody of her 4-year-old daughter to Kim Rogers, her aunt.
