I have observed before that our contributions should be to the big boys this time because only they have the infrastructure to move large quantities of aid somewhere quickly and more or less efficiently. Donating to the tiny charities is like making sure a person needing expensive treatment for cancer gets a flu shot. The local Red Cross in FL is asking for donations of socks and clean underwear, but remember the locals here are only a few hundred miles from the disaster. There is a large socks and underwear container in a parking lot here that is filling to capacity very fast.

The complete lack of air drops of portable toilets, military food, and just plain transmitters so people can communicate will be the stuff of Bush bashing for six months. It's Iraq, stupid.
