Emailer Neils R has focused on Snopes (urban legend site) and their time line vs Katrina. Urban Legends has been, for a long time, the leader in exposing vast internet fictions. They are not known for being accurate on short term things like T.O. and the Eagles, the Supreme Court Hearings, etc., but they have an up to date Katrina time line that they say exonerates Blanco, Nagin, and the Mississippi; says that there was no such thing as a Florida/Louisiana phone call on the date claimed and so on.

Claim: New Orleans mayor Ray Nagin and Louisiana governor Kathleen Blanco refused President Bush's pleas to declare an emergency in Louisiana before Hurricane Katrina struck.

Status: False.

Worth a read. With all the media bullshit it's very hard to come up with anything remotely truthful.
