Bob Novak commenting on Republican refusal to deal with immigration:

In my half century of political reporting, I never have seen a candidate or party succeed in playing the economic nationalist card. Even worse, a divided party promises to go into the hazardous 2006 election after doing nothing about an issue its constituents think is most important.
He's right, of course but the Republcans are on an old and decaying raft that is drifting aimlessly downriver toward the rapids while those aboard drink beer and sing patriotic songs. No leadership from anywhere within the foggy brained crowd of elected hyperventilating do-nothings.
