Movie Tip: Movies work best when they take us to places we never knew existed. From the beginning, the most popular movies were documentaries and stories filmed in jungles and wilderness. Germany made what were known as "Mountain Films," movies made in the Alps with spectacular results---the young and beautiful Leni Riefenstahl starred in many before becoming the official Nazi biographer; and our Western movies took us to the most spectacular portions of our country. Want to go to a place you never knew existed? There is a movie being shown on IFC called City of God, a trip into hell that shockingly shows us a place where children's gangs run everything, a "city God has forgotten." There are no cops, no judges, nor any semblance of morality. All that is visible are homicidal young men and little boys who are bent on making money right now through murder, drug dealing, and just plain terror. This chamber of depravity is an entire part of a city. Want a piece of ass? Find a girl and rape her....and let your friends rape her too. Violent? Yes, but it is a truthful story of a guy who became a famous photographer by taking pictures of these little monsters and publishing them in newspapers. The usual Left Wing critical sycophants who scream bloody murder whenever an American does a blood soaked movie, rave over this one (link to Rotten Tomatoes) cause it's foreign, but in this case they are right. Tape it if you can't watch it.
