Why Nancy Pelosi Did NOT screw up---vol 2. In addition to my observations here, add the fact that we are to believe that a representative with 20 years experience in the House would miscount the future ballot by 63 votes (149-86). Impossible. This Murtha offensive was a stunt to convince the far Left that she was still their girl, when in fact this is her opportunity to move the party to the center. Somebody with twenty years experience in the chamber and much of it in leadership positions does nor mis-count votes by more the three or four.

Howard - you are forgetting that Pelosi has a history of putting loyalty above all else, she is like Stalin that way. And she and Hoyer go WAY back - and have always hated eachother's guts. This, my friend is a real blood feud, and we will see how the next two years play out. If Pelosi cannot shift the House to the Left, can you even IMAGINE who the loud wing of the Party will demand they nominate for President?
This from the New York Observer's "Politicker" Blog: "The damage could be significant if she (Pelosi)loses. Forget the public relations angle - this is a woman who has had a remarkably strong hold on the Democratic Caucus, despite the best efforts of her foes (internal and external) to undermine her. But this looks very petty and very personal– a grudge being carried out against a man, Hoyer, who Pelosi simply doesn’t trust and doesn’t like. And that could weaken her support structure within the Democratic caucus, whose ranks she has now divided just days after their stunning win at the polls… [I]f she does pull out a win for Murtha this morning, she will take the Speaker’s gavel with unparalleled and unquestioned power, the strongest Speaker the House has seen in years. And she’ll have delivered one final, lasting blow to Hoyer - the man she first met 40-something years ago, when they both interned for Maryland Senator Daniel Brewster."
She may not have screwed the pooch just yet, but she took a hard shot yesterday. The woman is more vengeful than she is smart. Next up - the Chair of the House Intelligence Committee where she wants to pass over another political rival in favor of Alcee Hastings - another political pay-off to her long-time supporters in the Black Caucus.
