CRUDE OIL AT $120

It could happen, and soon. CNN has suddenly reverted to actual news instead of propaganda and is doing a first rate piece of journalism about the Nigerian Oil situation. Briefly, the government gets a billion dollars a week from the oil and that billion dollars is circulated to friends and families while the people live in abominal poverty cursed to exist in primal filth. As you might guess, some people are so pissed that they can be led to violence and revolution. A rebel battalion is pictured above...while Bush sleeps. Go here and be sure you look at the video labeled "Gallery," that is several paragraphs from the top of the page. We get 10% of our oil from Nigeria and it is almost pure, meaning almost no refining is necessary to extract product. This is very dangerous, but don't wake Condi Rice either. Or Nancy. Or any of our political slugs.

For a minute, I thought that was a photo from New Orleans. No joke.

In any event, I wonder how far the rebels would get without serious outside support. The Nigerian gov't depends on that oil for cash for their fancy living, weapons, and all kinds of other stuff. I doubt they are going to let those guys fuck up their money train. And the Nigerian gov't doesn't put up with any shit from anyone. They are a ruthless crew who like nothing better than shooting and hacking up opponents. Remember Biafra? They didn't have jack shit except lots of jungle. The Nigerian army was just making a point with those poor people. If the fight is over oil/money, then look out. Don't expect any prisoners or anybody telling the press too much, they won't be allowed in (and if I was assigned to report on that story, I would probably refuse or quit. No sense in dying in some shit village in the Delta to report about some African conflict. You'd probably get tortured too, just for kicks before being shot in the back of the head with an AK). Nigeria has oil and everybody wants it. If 10 or 5,000 or 25,000 tribesmen are killed in brutal combat and eprisals and just being in the wrong place at the wrong time, then too bad. That Ken Sarowiwa guy was hung for writing some poems or something critical of the gov't. Everybody wrung their hands, then back to business as usual. Nobody gives a damn what Amnesty International thinsk anyway, least of all the Nigerians. It'll be just like China after Tianamen. Hey, I didn't see a thing...now about those contracts...
