When the notoriously alcoholic Van Zandt was asked, he said he had no idea, that the thing just came to him and he wrote it down. An awful lot of people have recorded it. Without any idea of what it means. If it means anything at all.

NCAA pools: I'm convinced that nobody can do it on a single sheet if you know the slightest thing about basketball. Many moons ago 500 hundred of us got into a pool that spread to six or eight brokerage firms, one that ended up with $55,000 in it so naturally every switchboard operator in every company entered. You guessed it. A girl who knew so little about basketball that she pronounced Notre Dame as "Notre Dom," thought Duke meant English royalty, and so on and she picked Duke to win every game etc. Of course she won every bracket every day but one. We could never do that particular pool again because one of the other big pools got busted.

Iraq the Model thinks the chemical attack against both American and Iraqi forces will boomerang. He says this because he knows the tribes and knows how they will react against AlQaeda. I'd only point out that Iraq tribes go back at least a thousand years and it is not possible to govern Iraq unless you either have the tribes on your side or crushed under your boot. We have been averse to crushing them and averse to granting their demands (I think because we didn't have a clue about the history of the area) so to say they are suddenly on "our" side is premature.

Meanwhile Faces from the Front has a devastating evaluation of "our(?)" media. He says, from considerable experience, that AlQaeda has no intention of winning any war but the war in the U.S. media, one in which our gutless reporters are cooperating fully.
