Fluorescent automobiles
A word (OK, Two words) about fluorescent light bulbs: THEY WORK.....
More words: When the Enron (or was it Exxon?) crises hit SoCal my electric bills increased 120% overnight; from $30 per month to $77 (more during the winter). I was told that them weird looking fluorescent light thingys would save me big bucks so I went into a hardware store and bought 4 of them at $12 each. So I put them in the kitchen, family room, and bathrooms. So? They need about three minutes to warm up if you want to use them for reading, but after that they are as good as the other kinds of bulbs.
Savings: my electric bills dropped into the $35 range; I added two more to places where some of us might read and my bills are now about $29 per month and have been for the past five years. In addition, they last like forever, meaning that I've only had to change one (that's 1) since I bought them. That is a hell of a savings.
Next? Fluorescent automobiles.....sign me up Scotty.

Two things. First how the hell does anyone get by with a 30 or even 70 dollar electric bill!!!?
Mine is $100 and that's with no air conditioning. In the summer (Houston)it's up around 200.
Second...those light bulbs are made by the Red Chinese and only by the Red Chinese and each one contains about 5 mg of mercury. Break on and you're screwed. Just read an article that claimed some housewife paid 2k to have a remediation company come clean up her house after she broke one.
Oh, and I've got them too. They are pretty cool...no pun intended.
The city of Los Angeles had hedged their energy use and when Enron hit they were immune. LA City rates are very low. I live in an unincorporated area of LA County and our rates are what they are. In my case I think I have some sort of a discount.
