OK, OK, I SURRENDER

Responding to a bunch of emails suggesting that I'm a fucking Nazi spy and Hitler lover because of the music presented on my Leni Riefenstahl post, I did five Hail Marys and then went to this Lili Marlene orgy; sixteen different recordings. Dietrich's is in English and German.

A bit of trivia here. During WWII there was quite a bit of anti-German feeling in the country. Super sex object, Marlene Dietrich, who had been a major movie star for two decades, addressed the rampant anti-German feelings in the country. I'd hasten to observe that while nobody was anti Dietrich there were others of German descent who felt the hostility. So she went on a USO tour in Europe and went right up to the front lines, like shells falling and guys getting killed front lines. And she chose to close every show with the song "Lili Marlene," and always got standing ovations from the GIs. She followed up one of her shows with the following comment made to a reporter from the Stars and Stripes, "I guess it's all right to be a German again...." Sure was Marlene. Sure was...
