FOOTBALL: NFL weekend games among the dullest on record. The San Diego game was so boring I had to think back to one of my son's peewee games to find a one that matched. There's a reason these teams play the first weekend: no offense. Next weekend when Indianapolis, New England, and Dallas are on the bill of fare I think we will see the end of the wild card teams with San Diego having the only chance. Norv Turner, the new Charger coach, showed that the firing of Schottenheimer was the right move. The Chargers won a smash mouth game by playing smash mouth football and then passing enough to win. Now they look to kill the Colts. Right.
BCS: The bowl games showed that the Big Ten is not nearly as bad as I had thought is just as bad as I thought. Had Illinois had some luck they would have made the Rose Bowl much closer (like 50 to 28). So I'm picking Ohio State LSU to basically rout an over hyped Big 10 team that is not nearly as strong as last year's. If actual grades were compared the SEC wouldn't be able to field any teams at all, another way of saying that there is not academic parity between the SEC and the other conferences. Overall the intellectual quality of athletes circa 2007 is far above 1993 as is evident whenever there are interviews on TV. This is not to say that today's athletes are smarter than they used to be but that today's athletes actually have to go to class and do more than do barely passing work. Being able to converse in standard English means that they have a shot at earning a living after college football.
Late Add: tell me again that USC would have lost by the same score. This should cook the Big 10 once and for all.

Yo Howard, the Chargers aren't actually a wild-card team. They won the AFC West so they got to play at home. Agree with everything else though. Cheers.
