And this is a montage of Dietrich from young to old, Blue Angel, and other stuff. The pictures with WWII GIs has meaning beyond the pictures. When WWII broke out the anti German hysteria was wild and people were marching in Hollywood with signs telling her to get out and go back to Germany. She was really hurt, she hated Hitler, that's why she was here, although she came just before Hitler took over and the Nazis were on the prowl. In 1944 she toured the American front lines in Europe, and not some bullshit London appearance either, she was at the front with the exploding artillery shells where sang the well known German soldier's song Lili Marlene for the troops everywhere she went, and they went wild for her. After one of the ovations for Lili Marlene she told a few friends, "I guess it's OK to be German again." It sure was Marlene. It sure was.
