Bonfire of the Surrogates
Election:
it's clear this PM that two waves have been unleashed by closet campaigns that could turn very nasty very quickly. First, is the "thought" that the so called "Bradley Effect" will doom Obama in a real election. The Bradley Effect refers to LA Mayor Tom Bradley's run for the governorship of CA in which the Black Mayor polled as a big winner, even on the exit polls, but lost by a ton and a half because we dirty lousy white people who said we'd vote for him didn't. The ground is being prepared by Clinton pals to imply that the current Obama vote totals among whites will evaporate when things get serious. Watch for this series of leaks to the "friendly" columnists.
Then we have the wet dreams of Republicans who fantasize that somehow the base will "come back;" will regain their senses, sober up and forgive and forget McCain-Feingold; Campaign Finance Reform; Illegal alien amnesty; anti-tax cuts, and a possible a "man made" global warming fanatic. The base will see that he's only kidding, that he is really a conservative, blah blah blah. The drive will be on through every possible shill to get this base "back."
This stuff on both sides is the deep background and we have to see how it plays out. It'll be a who do we believe the most kind of a thing. Or more precisely, a how badly do we want to believe what we hear kind of thing.
