Bush caused the Writer's Strike, Either Hillary or Obama settled it.....a very balanced look at both what the writers and what the business has actually become HERE

Thanks Howard. Very amusing article. At the beginning of the strike I tried to understand WHY STRIKE? but quickly gave up. The WGA Bolshevik rhetoric turned me off and the archaic, complicated method of computing residuals lost me. I actually got angry about the semingly arbitrary singling out of certain shows to grant waivers to: Letterman & Ferguson but not Leno, Conan or Kimmel; pitting one against the other for ratings disgusted me. And last but not least, the BTL jobs lost, people thrown out of work.

I used to belong to a union which managed to collective bargain good wages and benefits without striking; not perfect, but it worked. Besides, I think most of us out here ENVY the hard life of a Hollywood writer!

P.S. I saw the strike politically as a bunch of liberal screenwriters angry at a bunch of rich liberal producers--no conservatives in this fight. No bigger issues there, except how we are all going to cope in the 21st century...Kinda scary, huh?
