Never mind the fucking election, this is serious. NFL type serious. How many stars have to be carried off with debilitating injuries before some rule changes stop the carnage. I pay to see running backs, wide receivers, tight ends, and of course quarterbacks. Without these there is no game worth watching. It seems to me that the vicious hitting is the problem. It has gone too far, but whenever a "spokesman" for the league is on TV they are for a continuation of the "masculinity of the game." Jesus man, there ain't gunna be no masculines left standing in a few more weeks. Right now we're without one of the Mannings, at least four starting running backs, God only knows how many quarterbacks, and I don't know how many wide receivers. I don't pay ten cents to see Bob Golick block or some insane linebacker hit a helpless quarterback---and by the way, WTF kind of courage does it take to destroy a quarterback from behind? This is a test of manhood? The tacklers have made themselves into guided missiles that explode into running backs with a force no human body was designed to withstand.

Possible solutions? Defensive lines have to line up one yard in back of the nose of the ball; once set, the linebackers cannot move til the snap of the ball (we do this at school when we have guys out); and most important, allow ANY shift without the necessity of having an eligible receiver wear the proper number---refs know the play and can follow it. I'd also see if the Canadian rule of a back being allowed to move toward the line before the snap reduces injuries due to the fact that nobody can lie in wait to break his legs as he springs into action.

The body count so far this year is 130 who cannot play this Sunday. Most are running backs with a smattering of defensive backs and line backers. Only 24 out of the 130 are defensive linemen.
