France asks Turkey to admit genocide

From Expatica. Late late add: France modified their demands
BRUSSELS, Dec 13 (AFP) - France wants Turkey to acknowledge the World War One massacre of Armenians during negotiations on its membership of the European Union, Foreign Minister Michel Barnier said Monday.
This is another reptilian diplomatic move by France, one that is designed to keep Turkey out of the EU. France hasn't suddenly fallen in love with the Armenians although there is a large Armenian population in France that forced France to condem the genocide back in 2001. What makes this doubly tricky is that the Turks didn't kill most of the Armenians, they bribed the Kurds to do it; and---ready for this---Russia has provided the proof. It is in the form of a document that is on display in the Armenian Genocide Memorial museum they built in Yerevan, the ancient capital of Armenia. This document, signed by the Talaat Pasha, orders the elimination--by whatever means necessary--of Armenians from Turkish lands. But in reality Turkey subcontracted the genocide to the Kurds. And peeling that onion once again; admitting to the genocide means billions in reparations and Turkey ain't paying. The Kurds will never admit to anything. France has played an Ace of trumps to keep Turkey out of the EU.

Now what? Turkey may well shift 180 degrees and join with the Islamists, and that will be a direct threat to both Iraq and the U.S. forces in Iraq. (see my old post) This is very very serious.

Perhaps, I'm more short-sighted than you but it doesn't seem to matter if France is demanding this acknowledgement for reasons other than sympathy for the Armenians. What matters is the acknowledgement. And perhaps only France is in a position to push the issue.

Turkey is a country in Asia, not Europe.
If you really want Turkey to become a part of an other country, why don't you take it as a new state into the United States?
