Today is Sinko dee Mayo. Guess what it celebrates. If you said "nothing," you are close. There was a battle at Puebla about 15 years after the Mexicans supposedly threw out the Europeans, but like everything else Mexican, the maƱana factor kicked in. The Europeans didn't leave til the Sinko de Mayo 15 years later. There is a dispute over what it actually means, with one group insisting that it honors those killed trying to cash a forged Welfare check in Los Angeles, May 5th, 1939 while others say it celebrates the one millionth Mexican to sneak into a San Diego del Taco on May 5th 1949. Whatever. If they did anything at all on Sinko de Mayo they will soon demand money for it.
