AWARDS--IT'S THE DRESSES, STUPID

Oscar Time and who watches? According to A.C. Nieslsen Company and the Scarborough Co. the overwhelming majority of the Oscar Show TV viewers are married women over the age of 25. No other demographic comes close, with young males virtually absent from the study. It is also true that most women viewers watch for the dresses the beautiful people wear. (Fan at left who arrived early) Which got me to inquiring around. Other than those in show biz, men just don't give a fuck. Most I've spoken with will only watch it because their wives watch it and they feel guilty if they leave them alone in front of the set. Most don't have a clue as to the nominees in any category and simply shrug. So the rating, which will be in the 35 million class, will be mostly married women, followed by single women in all age groups. The men counted as watching will actually be nodding off, reading a sports page or business section of a paper. Ads? No edgy Super Bowl humor here. Look for standardized ads designed not to offend the most easily offended group in the U.S.
