Baseball: OK, the "safe" call at the plate in the Colorado game. As a former well trained little league umpire, here's what everybody is missing. 1. You cannot block the plate without the ball (plate not blocked til he allegedly had the ball). You must control the ball when making a tag. The catcher dropped the ball. On any play at any other base the loss of ball possession means the runner is safe. There have been plenty of times where a runner sliding into a base is tagged "out" but then kicks the glove and dislodges the ball and is declared "safe." In this case the catcher was clearly blocking the plate without the ball after dropping it. The runner was actually safe, not out. Makes up for the botched home run call.
