In my post about Haditha yesterday I left out a very important point, one that anyone who has been in the military will immediately agree with. Anyone being hauled before a courts martial must never let the military appoint an attorney for him. All officers want promotion and in a charged case like this one it is very likely that the accused Marines (usually enlisted ranks) have attorneys with an agenda of self interest. These guys are being railroaded by the usual suspects plus the PC Army. In a few instances there will be an officer with a track record of beating courts martials like a drum. This officer will always be a reserve officer, one who could give a fat fuck about promotion and who gets his kicks out of beating these cases. But be careful.

You got it right in the last sentence. The best commanding officer I ever had in the Air Force was a reservist who just happened to be the vice-president of a major company; he was there because he wanted to be.
He was completely untouchable by the ring-knockers and the ticket-punchers. He came like a new broom and swept up a lot of crap that had been hanging fire for a long time.
