Movies
Charlie Wilson's War,
scheduled for release on Christmas Day so we must assume all "reviews" are of a bootlegged CD. It's hard to believe that Hollywood could fuck up this story, but according to many "reviews," it sure has. Charlie Wilson's War is the untold story behind the last battle of the Cold War and how it fueled the new jihad. The book tells how Charlie Wilson, a maverick coke snorting pussy hunting congressman from east Texas, conspired with a rogue CIA operative to launch the biggest, meanest, and most successful covert operation in the Agency's history. A terrific book has become (many are saying) another Hollywood bomb with Mike Nichols directing, and starring Tom Hanks (as the 6'7" hero), Julia Roberts as a sex bomb (right there it could fail), and a huge cast of known actors. Nichols hasn't had a hit since ??? and has been out of the loop for so long that he seemed more a choice to impress backers than to make a hip and funny movie. I think his last big hit was thirty years ago and he has been a safe PC ordinary director ever since.

I guess even the Hollywood Left can't stand to tell a dead bang story any more. Too bad, this should have been a near great movie. Libertas has reviews and reader commentary. If you read the book you probably got all there was to get from this potentially super screen story.

And no post on movies today can ignore Iowa Hawk's evisceration of the Movie Scene that he headlines: Box Bux Sux as Stix Hix Nix Xmas Flix it's a satire, of course but in it he has the numbers for a mythical George Clooney, Matt Damon, Julia Roberts movie that grossed a per screen average of $28 per. That comes out to four people per DAY, a number that not even the theatres can tolerate. Like all good satire, some of it is too close to the truth.

And what does the picture at the top of the page have to do with this post? Nothing. Nobody in Hollywood is even remotely like that whore, because even she knows how to gross big dollars on every nocturnal prowl. Her stuff grabs as many as 15 patrons per night, not four; and her per screen average is around $1,200. Be sure you go to Iowa Hawk because he nails the Hollywood hypocrisy dead center.
