Obama Tide on the Wane?

Most of you who read me know I live on the West Side of LA, the liberal bastion of SoCal, so naturally most of my friends and acquaintances are liberal to left. I go to a few parties in the area and have never found either Che or Weather Underground celebs to be on the guest list of any of them. I was at a gathering over the weekend that was attended by more than a hundred liberals all of whom had parked their their Mercedes Benz and Porches in front of the party. Hybrid versions were presumably on order.

I was among the the three conservatives who know how to keep their mouths shut if we ever want to work in this town again, who carefully nurtured our latte’ on the rocks while pretending to love some of the neo Socialist Realism art on the walls (my particular favorite was the water color of President Reagan performing fellatio on Lenin while being anally violated by a muscular labor leader). The political conversation from the Liberals who always have big mouths to match their big bank accounts and are decidedly college grads was the major surprise. Obama has been the choice of at least half of these people, half only because the sort of feminist women crowd wanted Hillary, but not excitedly. This time it was very different, anti-Obama was the clear and overwhelming topic of conversation mainly because many "said" that he was associated with the old violent Left and had stories to prove it.

But if you really know politics you know that people never vote for the reasons they tell you and under the constant babble the real reason most had turned against the Messiah was their investments. They were worried about their investments (aside from gold) they have set aside for their kids college and their own eventual retirement. These are people who can not only add, they can multiply and divide too. This very bright bunch have added the costs of Obama's programs and they are all aware that there isn't enough money in America to pay for half of what Obama says he wants to do. Most of the guests seemed to be almost in shock, clearly shaken by the prospect of an Obama presidency; there was lots of talk about what country would be safe for their money, the falling dollar, and fear of a financial melt down. The universal opinion was that Obamanacs didn’t care about anything because they had all found God. I've never heard any West Side gathering that tilted Republican but this one certainly did.

This trendy crowd was not show biz or artsy fartsy at all. Most were working professionals in various enterprises or business owners. Normally the party conversation is about movies (every conversation in LA is partly about movies) Iraq, crooked politicians, and sports. Most notable with this gathering would be the women who were very vocal in their condemnation declaring flat out they would probably vote for McCain. Many of the animated conversations had the tone of "did you hear?" regarding another scary story about Obama. His wife was universally disliked (everybody was aware of the huge money she made in Chicago) and held in virtual contempt.

So what's important about this crowd? Seventy five percent of the men spend at least half their work days on the phone talking with people in all parts of the country. I'd suggest that an anti Obama tide is out there among the not very blue collar people that may show up on Tuesday. Don't be surprised if Hillary actually pulls out two states tomorrow. I think Obama is on his way to being toast.

Very late Add: Posted 11:10PST Rasmussen backs up this opinion with data.

Oh, this rings so true. Lefties that are all for "the cause", in this instance, B.O.'s The Change, until they see how it affects their own bottom line. The hypocrisy is so sublime, like you and "Muffie" taking the Range Rover to a "Goreacle Spectacle" and bemoaning the death of Gaia.
