I was at work when a Left Wing VP entered the office and claimed he'd won the Schavio Office Pool. Most everyone cheered. Life in LA and on the Left. I'd say this divide is as deep as it can be; it is between the people who honestly think this is simply an attempt by the Right to turn the country into a theocracy---something I hear all the time---and those people who are spiritually inclined because of some religious teaching in their pasts. I don't pretend to be a deeply sensitive type---I flunked my sensitivity training twice before I cheated and passed---but starving other people to death while we scream about endangered species has me more than a little confused.

There are some things just not to be believed. This piece from the Iran Press News would have us believe that a 54 year old female reporter was gang raped and then taken to a hospital by her torturers and rapists so a doctor could see the evidence. The "news" from inside Iran is never reliable.

Since the gutless National Review caved to Muslim extremist pressure and removed offensive books from their site, I thought it my duty to reveal the names of the books and links to their purchase. The first is called "The Life and Religion of Mohammed" and is not on Amazon either. You can read a review and buy it here. The other book banned by the gutless "conservatives" at National Review is called "The Sword of the Prophet," which is available at Amazon but also is reviewed HERE. I am going to tout both books in my links on the Left at no charge to anybody. If we citizens can't stand up to these Muslim assholes they will win. LGF got me pissed off enough to do this.

Last weekend DuToit ran some pix of stripper Teeta Von Teese that rang a major bell with me. A guy who I met back in the early 90s, who is a multi-talent to say the least, was doing a shoot with this same crazy Vvan Teese lady called "The Motel Project." The book is a real gem but start here with something else and you will see a major talent. His name is Charles Krider, and I think you'll remember him once you check out his terrific site. Even if you only like jazz a little bit, you have to tune into the BET Jazz channel. Terrific. No race shit at all. Everything is there and it's almost too good to be true. I'm hooked, I hate bop, and there ain't no bop. It flat swings, to use an old term. Oh, and the black people who talk on the show are normal people who actually speak english. Some of the white guys are a little off, though.

Here's the deal. A Right to Life march in----gasp, shake---Berkeley. They were "disinvited" by every mayor in the Bay Area and marginalized by all the usual suspects. A very good piece about the experience is HERE

A local Planned Parenthood spokesperson fretted, "(w)e couldn‘t believe that they had the nerve to come to San Francisco." What did surprise us was that our own elected officials in San Francisco, Berkeley and Oakland "unwelcomed" us in no uncertain terms by declaring our cities "pro-choice and proud." Remarkably, those who otherwise celebrate diversity are unable to imagine any diversity of opinion on abortion.

Had the nerve? I can only infer from that kind of remark that something should happen to the marchers. Loosely quoting from Sharansky's book on freedom, "There is no free society if you fear to speak your thoughts in the public square." Now Sharansky is a nice guy and all but a white person doesn't dare speak out in South Central LA, or the so-called Bario in East LA, and LA is absolutely not free. But neither is Berkeley. Here's a really good part:

The good side of steroids. OK, OK, they make you big. No they don’t. Steroids have the effect of giving you fantastic energy. This permanent energy surge allows you to work out four times a day full bore and not get tired. This excessive work out schedule is what gets you big fast.

Track guys are able to run forever at top speed; bike riders never get tired no matter how many hills they climb; hockey players can stay on the ice through three shifts, and so on. But not all bodies are equal. If everyone took steroids, the less talented athletes would still achieve at lesser levels than the good or great ones.

It is also a fact that if you take them under supervision you will not get the side effects everyone is talking about. So what is the stink about? If everybody used steroids under supervision the home runs would pop out of the parks, the football guys will all weigh 300 pounds in high school, and children will be running 10,000 meters in record times. If everybody is taking them there would be no need for testing.

Roger L Simon...fiction writer, not reporter. We have all been roasting the MSM for several years for using unnamed secret sources before launching on their crusades. Simon is worse than any of them. Try these on:

1. "information from sources close to the investigation:" this non sourcing is used throughout as he lays out charge after charge.

2. His "sources tell" him that: "This report may reveal....." talk about bullshit. He couldn't get a job at the local high school paper with stuff like that.

3. After "MAY reveal" he follows up with this series of statements: startling information(?) tending to indicate [tending to indicate???] Secretary General Kofi Annan had more knowledge of, or was closer to, his son Kojo's activities with Cotecna - the company whose role in the scandal seems so pervasive - than previously thought (what the hell does that say??).

Claudia Rosett wouldn't touch this piece of crap with a ten foot garbage removal pole. Just another Hollywood hustler looking to crack the big time reporting game, and failing. But even better, he is trying to pull Claudia Rosett into it as if she was a co-writer. Read Rosett's stuff. Would she be caught dead with the above sourcing.

Very few of us actually get a story unless it drops in our lap because we happen to have expertise in a certain area and recognize a falsehood or a truth. Realistically, I have no idea what is happening across the street right now; in order to "report" something I'd have to get off my ass and go over there to snoop around. Simon may get a Hollywood story, Kudlow can absolutely get some financial stories, Kaus is actually a reporter and so on. For Reynolds, or anyone for that matter, to assert that Simon broke a story is absurd on its face, but too many of us on the web are getting way too blown up with self importance. Get your actual news off TV, they beat all the wire services. All we can do is offer our takes on various news pieces, or direct you to try something on another site.

BTW: Blogger is the worst service I've ever used. Short Google stock. If you own it, tighten up your stops. No company run this badly can continue to have good things happen. I think Google may be bailing on Blogger and hustling all of us out the door with bad service. link

The following mind-boggling attempt at a crime spree in Washington USA appeared to be the robber's first (and last), due to his lack of a previous record of violence, and his terminally stupid choices:

1. His target was H&J Leather & Firearms, A gun shop specializing in handguns.

2. The shop was full of customers - firearms customers.

3. To enter the shop, the robber had to step around a marked police patrol car parked at the front door.

4. A uniformed officer was standing at the counter, having coffee before work. Upon seeing the officer, the would-be robber announced a hold-up, and fired a few wild shots from a 22 target pistol. The officer and a clerk promptly returned fire, the police officer with a 9mm Glock 17, the clerk with a .50 Desert Eagle, assisted by several customers who also drew their guns, several of whom also fired, The robber was pronounced dead at the scene by Paramedics. Crime scene investigators located 47 expended cartridge cases in the shop. The subsequent autopsy revealed 23 gunshot wounds. Ballistics identified rounds from 7 different weapons. No one else was hurt in the exchange of fire Here we are at the beginning of March and we already may have the 2005 winner of the Darwin Award This guy is going to be hard to beat.

Enough to gag a maggot: The decay of Catholicism was on disgusting display last nite on O'Reilley via the Rev. Richard McBrien, the president of Notre Dame University. He made the statement that deliberately pulling the feeding tube from Schavio knowing the action would kill her wasn't killing. One can see how fondling boys isn't sex to this crowd. His excretious recitation of his version of Catholic ethics is proof that this religion needs constant change of diapers in its dotage. The ethical odor when some members of their clergy are left without care is enough to gag a maggot. Late Add: it looks like some Catholic priests are attacking the clown also. Maybe the putrifying McBrien may be put back in the nursery where he belongs. The year old position of the Pope is here, which is also contradictory to the statements made by the Notre Dame jerk.

The radical fringe of any organization or movement is never attractive, and the crazed extreme of the Right to Life movement is no exception. And it has been a gift from the Gods as far as the MSM is concerned that they came out. We have not seen this element in public before and its appearance now is disconcerting to say the least. They are exactly what every Democrat wanted to see; the MoveOn dot Org of the extreme Right. How many of them are there? Their numbers are probably in the hundreds but the MSM will do their best to present them as nut cases always knowledgeable that this country will not tolerate religious fanatics in politics. Too much ranting and every Right to Life person will be tainted as a fanatic. Having said that, you just know that the MSM was dying to show radical Right to Lifers in the worst possible light. Late Add: Malkin has a vg piece up today about the just plain religious who are being ridiculed by the MSM complete with pix.

Markets the dollar has broken to the upside on every kind of indicator but must still break 8550 to change trend. We will see if Greenspan has really pulled back on the money supply then.

Blogger is so bad it is not usable any more. I originally posted this at 7AM LATE ADD: Once again, Blogger took 90 minutes to allow me access--------the real key to the dollar is the Euro falling below 127, right now it's around 129 down from 138 a few months ago. Many writers now think the money supply is having an effect, but there is also awareness that the EU conomy is a shambles and that the U.S. is the only game in town. Once rates cease to rise, many feel this will be June of this year, we may see the 10% plus unemployment in Europe begin to drag their economies down. They have a big problem with Muslim immigrants who can't get work and can't get on welfare, a further problem with their labor unions and farmers that cannot be resolved easily, and the corruption of the political class.

WHY GOD INVENTED THE A-BOMB

Whether you call it mordida (the bite), un pot-de-vin, or just bribery, nowhere on the planet is it as universal as in Middle East. There, under the term "bakshish", it controls every form of business or government service. You cannot get a job without bakshish, roads don't get built, you can't sell so much as a date on the street without bakshish.

Buy stock? Oh no! A powerful person (or people)simply takes 10% of the stock and agrees to pay for the stock when the accrued dividends match the stock price at time of "purchase"; in addition he gets a seat on the board of directors PLUS a salary. In exchange, the business won't have tariff problems, labor problems, or any problems. Judges take money from both sides and routinely rule in favor of the biggest bribe (he keeps both bribes); hospitals have two sections, one for the people who have paid a bribe and one for those who have not.

Hospital doctors are the ones who paid the most in bribes to the government guy in charge of hospitals, business executives are where they are only because of bakshish, army officers, artists whose works are shown, and so on, bakshish seeps into every facet of society. This has been going on for thousands of years. When you pair bakshish with the "shame/honor" of the society at large you have hell on earth. Any criticism of a doctor puts shame on the doctor. To regain his "honor" he will go to the guy above him, the one to whom he paid bakshish in order to get his job in the first place, and the guy above him will go after the complainer and perhaps put him in jail. Nobody cares if the patient dies....unless the patient had paid bakshish to somebody much higher than either of them, etc., etc., etc.

It is a nightmare because any complaint is shame. Praise is honor. Everyone walks the line of shame, honor, bribery. Naturally everybody lies in that society. It is the only way a man can stay alive. The main reason everyone comments on the extreme politeness of Arabs is that every word is measured in honor/shame/bakshish. Who are you really? This is who I am (pretend). This food is good (because I might be killed). Everyone honors everyone and lies like hell to get what they may want. If your son wants a government job and goes to your tribal leader to ask for one the tribal leader cannot say "no", because a "no" would shame both his family and his position as leader of the tribe. He has to "see what I can do". Then he may have to go to the head of another tribe who works in the correct section of the government. Haggling is done. If the government guy already "owes" a favor then the deal can be done relatively quickly, perhaps for a consideration in return later. Otherwise a deal must be made so that nobody is shamed. The unqualified kid becomes an official for the right consideration and everybody has honor. The parents of the kid "owes", the kid "owes", the tribal leader looks strong, the father of the kid looks like a strong parent and so on. It is a society built on lies.

Right now we are in a place where the Saudi family tells Americans one story and a completely different one to the Arabs on TV at home. This is normal. Nothing wrong with it. What is really going on? Honor is going on. The Arab people know what was told to Americans and by telling the opposite story to them on TV the Saud family shows "honor" by both lying to the Americans and getting away with it. But suppose the Saudis told us the truth and lied to their own people? That's OK too, the Saud prince shows he can conduct smart business. The Saudis may have made a secret deal with Powell by telling Powell that they would have to lie to their people but that they are telling the truth to Powell.

Get it? Arabs lose wars because their generals are only there because of bakshish. Their scientists are there for the same reason. There is not one aspect of their lives where competence is the criteria for position. Period. Iraq? Fuhgedaboudit.

Some facts???---oh no, not them--- about the Red Lake Indian Reservation [5,000 people live on more than 800,000 acres]: It is a hell hole of violence, drunkeness, inter tribal fighting, poverty, and one of the worst schools in the United States, and that is saying something.

In 1979, dissidents staged an insurrection after tribal leaders removed one of the dissidents' sympathizers from the Tribal Council. Five armed dissidents broke into the reservation's law enforcement center and took several hostages. The FBI quickly ordered all police and sheriff's officers off the reservation, saying they faced life-threatening gunfire.

With no police presence on the reservation, dissident tribal members captured the police department's weapons and raided the U.S. Bureau of Indian Affairs storage area for confiscated liquor.

Then the insurgents set the law enforcement center on fire and went on a rampage of shooting and looting. The home of Roger Jourdain, who was then the tribal chairman, and other government buildings were burned to the ground.

When the rioting ended, two teenagers were dead of gunshot wounds, several were wounded and about $4 million in property was damaged, primarily by fire.

Five men were convicted and sentenced to prison in connection with the rioting.

It gets even better for this soverign nation that bars all outsiders whenever they choose and bars all outsiders from most of the reservation always. They are extreme racists too

In the 1980s, there was more unrest at the reservation over allegations of civil-rights abuses. Lawyers had been barred from tribal courts, and defendants were routinely denied bail, jury trials and other rights that federal laws were supposed to extend to Indians.

In 1986, a Red Lake band member, Gregory Good, accused Chief Tribal Judge George Sumner of running a court system that violated civil rights. One night after a dispute, Good shot Sumner to death. After hearing that Sumner had chased and beaten Good, a federal jury accepted arguments of self-defense and acquitted Good of homicide charges.

We should all face the fact that the reservation system is a form of aparthied, but one that these underachieving deadbeats want. Indians like this used to be called [by the (L)Dakota Sioux)] "stay around the forts" so named because instead of living like Indians they just hung around the forts begging for food and liquor. So there. The Stay Around the Forts have themselves a reservation with no competition from others. They have the formula for continuing failure, something the Liberals love.

Is Good Friday a time to tell it like it is? Yeah. It's really about time that we all faced the real facts of the Left. Most of them: 1. Hate capitalism and are hell bent on destroying it, 2. Most of them hate WHITE AMERICA; regard the Constitution and Bill of Rights as White Slaveowner morality and therefore fake; 3. are Indifferent to Evil because they have no fixed moral code and will therefore oppose almost everything that doesn't maintain the status quo regarding foreign dictatorships and the corrupt UN and EU.

So we have two countries. Not Red and Blue, but the one with a fixed moral code and one with a sliding scale of morality based on narrow self interest. I think it is absolutely certain that the so-called Blue Morality will win out because when the Baby Boom freeloaders start getting entitlements there will be no end to their demands on the tax payers. We will have no military, no CIA, no security at all if it interferes with ever increasing Entitlement checks. I think the Bush presidency is the last hurrah for our freedoms influencing the world. Already you see the EU bitching that our problem is religion, religion is bad---including the Muslim religion---and that they must withstand our "religious state." Our morality is about to be overruled by The Welfare State; financially destroyed by those who choose to sack it for their own welfare. Socialism is their goal. Period. Happy Easter.

The “blogging” about Kyrgyzstan has left me with the impression that a bunch of phonies who know nothing need to talk about something obscure in order to validate themselves. Here’s my take, and it’s quick. This nothing country is situated next to both China and Russia and both of them regard this mouseocracy as their “sphere of influence.” Further, Kyrgyzstan is on top of a bunch of mountains, far far away from everybody, other than China and Russia. Russia and China don’t want democracy for Kyrgyzstan; the leadership of both countries fear freedom and democracy to say the least, and they aren’t about to allow a free pro U.S. country on their doorstep. This so-called revolution, the tulip revolution, is a leaderless bunch of conflicting tribal interests with the negative purpose of kicking a government out of office with no plan on what to do once they have succeeded.
OK, they have succeeded. Now what?
Like every other Muslim area in the world, Kyrgyzstan is nothing but lines on a map with a tribal population that can overflow to anywhere. The fact that they all wearing different tribal colored arm bands should give you an idea and there are at least twenty political parties there. Kyrgyzstan was a part of the old Soviet Union and Russia wants it back. Democracy? Give me a break. Both Russia and China are paranoid hard line dictatorships afraid they cannot stay in power. Any democracy on their borders is a threat to them. Any democracy is a threat to any dictatorship.
Our stated world wide purpose is now clear. Freedom. Period. Neither country will tolerate freedom.
Reality dictates that we can’t ignore things that happen in Kyrgyzstan We have a supply base there that supplies our forces in Afghanistan, but even more important, we have to keep Al Qaeda from forming another training base in the hundreds of hidden areas there. For this reason alone we want to stay there. Russia doesn’t want us there, fears us there, and wants us out, fearing that we will do “their” provence what Russia thinks we did to “their” Ukraine. Putin believes that we “stole” the Ukraine from him and he thinks we want to have a free election in Kyrgyzstan that will result in another pro-US government. Further, both the Chinese and the Russians regard everything in the area as “theirs.” China is involved because there is a Muslim Chinese provence on their border with Kyrgyzstan that is in open revolt against the Communist government. They feel we will support those Muslims in their fight for independence. So Kyrgyzstan is important because it affects these relations.

The “problem” is freedom, and as we have seen, freedom is a powerful lure for everyone on the planet, except the dictators. LATE ADD: This link from emailer J. Johnstone has very good background and history of country.

Terri Schavio----and what's my opinion? And this is my last posting on the matter. I am a total right to die guy. I have been clear about preferences for myself for twenty years----I prefer heroin or cocaine overdoses, or having my brain sucked out through my penis---and have signed many documents over the years. I wouldn't put my family through the misery I have seen in my own extended family when life was "extended" far beyond what I would consider a decent life for myself.

This particular case is a family feud gone wild over a comatose woman who has never expressed an opinion to anyone about the subject of right to life in her life, which seems nearly impossible when one thinks about it. Never a word or opinion about abortion? Never a remark when she has seen really sick or dying people? If true, she would have had to have been a near moron.

I'm one of those who thinks "God works in mysterious ways" types who believes that events like this happen so we can really take a look at what we are doing to one another. Life support in general has been invented and improved by us since time began and is now at the point where we can be kept alive for a hundred years past initial hospitalization if somebody wants to do it.

This "debate" has brought to the fore the potential public expense of "Right to Life" when taken to extremes, as well as the really cruel way we "let people die" when we pull the plug. My own personal preference would be a quick death. As far as Schavio goes, unless this is a criminal matter---a real possibility---I'd let her die once she hit the "vegetable" category.

I can reveal exclusively that CBS will bring a Biblical epic into series form for next season. “It will have everything; violence, sex, and always a deeply spiritual message,” said CBS honcho, Les Moonves. In a hush hush series of negotiations with Mel Gibson, NBC is “this close” to a deal to do their version of The Passion. NYPD Blue producer Steven Bocho will step up to the plate along with actor Dennis Franz, who played Andy Sipowicz in Bocho’s acclaimed “Blue.” Franz will play Pontius Pilate who hunts down the criminal Jesus through the episodic thriller. When Bocho was asked if audiences might be offended if Jesus was depicted as a criminal and Pilate the hero, Bocho replied that Christ was a Jew and the critical demographic college crowd was totally anti-Semitic. He pointed to faculty and student demonstrations at Berkeley, Seattle, DePaul, and many Ivy League schools to prove his point. Porn star, Jenna Jamison, is being considered as Pilate’s alcoholic drug dealing love interest and David Caruso as Paul, Christ's kinky Disciple and henchman. In a breakthrough for diversity in casting, Bocho is rumored to be talking with both Jennifer Anniston (Disney's Hercules, Waiting for Woody) and Samuel L Jackson (Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill, The Incredibles) about playing Christ.

A "Singin' in the Rain" moment has arrived in Hollywood/Berlin/Hong Kong once again. The plot of "Singin' etc." had a lot to do with movie stars of the silent era falling on their horrid voices when sound arrived. The appearance of HDTV, which has the effect of holding a very large magnifying glass up to every actors face, means that every facial flaw on every slutty actress will explode onto the screen in all its microscopic misshapeness. Pimples will look like exploding volcanos of pus, moles will look like giant bugs, and....well you get my drift. I was an actor for twenty years and have been on many shoots where quite unattractive women looked great on camera. Not any more. Flawed men will sprout beards but women are going to have one very serious problem. There will be a changing of the guard in vaginaville. Older actresses---over 26---can forget it. If you think makeup will solve it, think again. HDTV simply amplifies the makeup. There may be a computerized filmography that can be used cheaply, but I know a guy who has made his living using his computer to take up to twenty pounds off of rock stars in music videos who tells me that trying the same thing in a 90 minute plus movie could cost as much as a couple of million dollars. Makes me glad I'm a professional automobile location adjuster at a restaurant. BTW, I've known quite a few porn actresses???? and none of them, like none, will be able to look good with real HDTV. One of the reasons they are in porn and not real movies is that they are not nearly as good looking as they seem on video tape or 35MM with dim lighting.

As the Left watches Terri Schavio die with self righteous satisfaction, and the rest of us squirm while a perfectly innocent person is starved to death, we can only form some plans to see that something like this can never happen again. The Right to Life movement pitted against The Right to Murder League will have only one winner, finally. Because this has always been about the right to kill the unborn by self absorbed women who want money and careers, and to hell with everything else. For some---actually a lot---of first trimester aborted fetuses, go here. Warning, the photographs, when blown up, are a major shock. These are not warts to be removed on a whim. I doubt that you will be able to go through all of them as they reveal day by day what an aborted fetus actually looks like. Might even change your mind. The Right to Life people are mounting many of these pictures on trucks and driving them around towns as mobile billboards much to the anger and dismay of the Abortion people.

As we have seen, killing what the Left decides to define as the useless adult is a part of the Feminist/Left philosophy, just as preservation of late life is a part of the Right to Life movement. Terminating the sick and infirm is an argument that is very old, one that used to be called eugenics, but the Nazis ruined that style of cripple removal. Now we have abortion and right to die. Most of us think we can now decide to "pull the plug" by making up a so-called Living Will. But suppose some relative tears it up and then makes a counter claim? The Living Will ceases to exist. How many of us can afford to put a copy in a safe deposit box or on file with an attorney? And how about this: What is life support for the teminally ill today may be simply life saving technology twenty years after the living will is made up. Then what? Terri Schavio is going to live for a long long time in our memories, and that's a good thing.

Why is figure skating programed, as if ESPN doesn't give us enough of it? Is it possible that their donors insist on watching gay men in too tight pants prance about the ice with roses in their teeth? Women's gymnastics ditto. Why can't PBS exist using American programming of things nobody else can afford to put on such as symphonies, jazz, some theatre that has no audience at all, and other things that nobody else can put on. The Civil War series was outstanding. Our tax dollars now go to cooking shows in spite of the fact that there is an entire cooking cable network. Real education is a PBS function. Where are the phonics reading programs that parents can tape? How about the "quick math" that the schools refuse to teach? And the salaries paid to these bozos is a scandal. Fox is leading a look at some of the PBS excesses, but my bet is that the look will end right there. There is next to nothing on PBS that isn't done just as well or better by commercial TV without our tax dollars, thank you very much. I'd like to see PBS open each day with a master shot of one of their parking lots loaded with Mercedes, Porches, and other luxury cars paid for by us stupid tax payers as they launch into another fund raising week.

Schadenfrude Watch: Details on the French political scandals are here. Cutting to the chase: nearly 50 politicos are going to trial for various bribe taking, most surrounding the contracts for building schools. It is said that "everybody" has known about it for years but nobody said anything or reported anything. Those of us who feel that the French corruption covers every part of their society and are approved by same, know that somehow Chirac will not be charged.

The trial will focus on the period from 1989 to 1997, when the centre right UPM (then known as the RPR), the Socialist Party and the Communist Party are alleged to have received "donations" totalling around £60 million from building firms in exchange for the right to renovate Paris' schools.

Kickbacks from Saddam were just not enough to support everyone in French government. $150 million in bribes wouldn't cover one year of the Big Dig in Boston. The French can't even do corruption right. $150 mil divided by 50 isn't even a living wage in New York. However, but, and BTW these charges are old and guess who was mayor of Paris way back then?

A certain M Jacques Chirac was Mayor of Paris between 1977-1995. While the President's legal immunity from prosecution will keep him out of court, the major figures in the corruption scandal were suspiciously close to Chirac. Michel Roussin was Chirac's chief of staff and cabinet secretary for ten years. Michel Giraud was head of the party Chirac dominated in the Paris region.

An emailer elequently stated her upset at the battle between the parents and the husband of Terri Schavio. There is a story in the Bible called "The Judgement of Solomon" that is told like this: Two mothers appeared before Solomon, each claiming that the baby held in the arms of one of them was hers. King Solomon then ordered a knife towards the baby. One woman immediately cried out, Solomon found this woman to be the true mother. This story was retold by Bertold Brecht in a play called The Caucasian Chalk Circle that went this way: The parable, concerns the struggle of two women over the custody of a child. The dispute between the governor's wife, who abandoned the child, and the young servant who saved the child and cared for him is settled by an eccentric judge who places the child in a chalk circle and declares that whichever woman can pull him from the circle will be granted custody. When the servant, not wanting to harm the child, lets the governor's wife have him, she is awarded the child, having demonstrated greater love than the natural mother.

I think it is clear in this case that the parents would let go......

On the Democratic side, the Schavio case is all about abortion. Their position is fueled by all the usual feminist, ACLU, and San Francesspool Leftists. None give a shit about Schavio, (go here for the Schavio "Exit Strategy" that includes pain relief) what they care about is their “right” to keep on killing babies, even those in very late term and those who are actually out of the womb. That is why, in their view, Schavio must die regardless of the pain and suffering caused by starving her to death.

The Republicans are also motivated by their position regarding most abortions, but the GOP really supports the entire “Right to Life” position, one that views the sanctity of all human life from conception to the moment before death as paramount. This is their base. There is no way in the current political structure of the two parties that the Republicans would allow Schavio to die.

Make no mistake, this move has the potential to make abortions a Federal matter, something that the Left cannot tolerate if Federal intervention means that women can’t kill babies no matter the “term.” Partial birth abortion is now the Feminist cause celeb (see here for some pictures of so-called fetus in various stages)

The current Leftist argument about the Feds not interfering in State affairs is bogus. One of the most Leftist members of Congress did all she could to help a local rapist in Marin County. No problem. The entire argument depends on whose ox is being gored. In this current case it's the Republican ox, the Republicans have the majority and make the rules. So they did.

Then in an editorial, they equate Schiavo with convicted criminals in attacking the Republicans in Congress. In true Orwellian form, the Left never kills anybody; they remove life supports, cause cessation of breathing, withdraw breathing tubes, disconnect respirators, and stuff like that. Had the Left been reporting Saddam's little operation they'd have had; sex awareness centers (rape rooms), discomfort measuring hospices (torture chambers), short range pistol excercises (bullets to the brain), human horsepower evaluation sites (places where people were dragged to death behind trucks), and so on.

Then there is this observation:

Anyone wanting to know about the 200,000 strong gang known as MS-13 needs to start with Heather MacDonald, who is to street gangs what Claudia Rosett is to the Oil For Food scandal. There are two huge street gangs: one is called the 18th Street Gang, which is conducting a ten year reign of terror on the West Coast, particularly in Los Angeles; the second is the MS-13, a 200,000 plus international terror gang that engages in everything from murder to computer hacking. Both U.S. gangs (MS-13 is international) are comprised mostly of illegal aliens immune from arrest because of the Los Angeles City council, which passed the infamous Special Ordinance 40 that makes cops into criminals if they ask an arrested gang member if he is here illegally or not. Most big cities are now using SO 40 even thought their local city governments haven't passed it to shield illegal criminals from arrest. The thing that would help most would be if victims of crimes would sue the LA City Council members for accessories to the murders, robberies, and other mayhem committed by these illegal alien gang members. Then I'd really go off. I mean this Princeton oil slick even goes for "consensual beastiality." How do you get a goat to give consent? This is the kind of thing that might work for high school boys who don't want to wear a condom while having sex with a real girl because they don't want to support a child, but can you really get it up for a Dalmation? Singer is often referred to without a hint of irony as an “ethicist.” He is the founding father of the animal liberation movement and advocates ending “the present speciesist bias against taking seriously the interests of nonhuman animals. He is also a staunch defender of non-voluntary euthanasia, infanticide, and even bestiality (assuming it is consensual). As I’ve written before, if he we were teaching high school he would be unemployable. But the Ivory Tower is more tolerant of idiocy and so the Australian philosopher has been able to secure positions at some of the most elite universities on three continents. He currently holds the DeCamp Professor of Bioethics, University Center for Human Values, Princeton University, a position he was appointed to by Harold Shapiro, the former chair of Bill Clinton's bioethics panel.

In the past I’ve been criticized for railing against Singer without adequately addressing the reason he holds the views he does. As Kevin T. Keith said, “you simply gape at Singer's positions as if they were self-evidently wrong simply because he proceeds from different (and more rationally grounded) premises.” Kevin has a valid complaint. I do assume Singer’s positions are self-evidently wrong because they are, in fact, self-evidently wrong. The Nazis also had “rationally grounded premises” for killing Jews but that does not mean that I need to explain were the Holocaust was "wrong." Defending the killing of newborn disabled children is self-evidently wrong whether it is being advocated in the concentration camps of Germany or in an Ivy-league university in New Jersey.

But I don’t just think that most of Singer’s views are self-evidently wrong, I think they are stupid. Singer may very well be a genius but his arguments often exhibit such a complete lack of intelligence that it is hard to imagine why anyone would take him seriously. Consider, for example, this selection (via Gerard Van der Leun) from Singer’s FAQ: a normal newborn baby has no sense of the future, and therefore is not a person....

Now go here and read the post. Then read his blog and I think you'll have him bookmarked for weekly reading. He is a hell of a writer, one of my favorites, and has more than a little to say. I have him linked on the Left too.

The street version of The Enlightenment goes something like this: "Hey! Don't tell me what's right and wrong. There ain't no God until you can prove it to me, and since you can't produce that pot dream and have him do something awesome, I'm gunna do whatever I want, and you got nothin to say about it. I ain't going to Heaven, but I ain't goin' to no Hell neither."

This attitude is what many post Enlightenment philosophers expected if the Age of Reason [The Enlightenment] were to obtain and replace religion. Without a universal moral platform on which to stand and decide matters there would be no way for an entire society to decide on what was right or wrong, good or evil. Taking it further, most took the position that removing God would result in a society that was indifferent to evil because it would be incapable of deciding what evil was.

What we see now in Europe and among the atheist American Left is the Indifference to Evil the unenlightened philosophers warned of. Oh yes, let us feed the hungry, help cure the sick, toss some money to the slobs of the world, but to actually do something that might risk life and limb to change things is out of the question. "Don't bother me while I'm doing drugs or grabbing some stray ta ta while my wife takes care of the kids," sort of sums it up. We should all remember that only Ronald Reagan and Margaret Thatcher, out of all the world's smart guys, had the moral clarity to stand up to the worst tyranny in history in terms of gross murders, gross imprisonments, death penalties for daring to speak out, and suppressions of all freedom. All the Left wanted was simply to contain evil and let millions die rather than be inconvenienced by standing up for freedom for those victims within the Soviet sphere. The Left knew, without lifting a finger to try to change things, that Communism would last forever and there was no use risking anything to get rid of it.

The evils as the Left sees them (sort of, more or less, um kind of), include eliminating the causes of inconvenience like babies still in the womb that prevent women from making as much money as men, not convicting people of crimes til they are "rilly rilly bad,"deciding "more or less" that some murders are OK [especially those committed by women against "abusive" spouses, boy friends, or "significant others"], all adultery is to be "expected," [promises only mean something til they are not convenient], and most especially the Left views mass murders committed in other countries as none of our business. They are just different cultures deserving of respect: in North Korea children are actually eating other children because they are starving---but they have the "BOMB;" millions were deliberately starved to death by Mugabe, but the Left, always led by Blacks most interested in their own entitlements at home, ignored it. Now that everyone's starved to death American Blacks praise a movie--a movie--- called Hotel Rawadna---how's that for safe?; "Darfour,? oh how awful," while someone changes the station inside their BMW.

We are now facing off with Islam, a religion that absolutely knows what good and bad are, what is evil and what is good, and intends to force that view on everyone in the world. Muslims have a platform to stand upon when they decide what is moral and immoral; Allah has told them. The American Right is the only force in Western society that is willing to make a moral judgement on what is good or evil, right or wrong. It is no accident that this segment of the world's population is religious and believes in God, and are sure of God's word.

I confess to be in the spineless camp. I thought Iraqis, due to their 5,000 year past, didn't want freedom. I was obviously full of it---nothing new there; I blame it on the expensive drugs and cheap whores; what is your excuse?---and had all the usual reasons. Most Iraqis, most Lebanese, and most Arabs have proven that they want freedom if they think they can get it. Up until a few weeks ago they saw themselves in a hopeless situation. Now they see freedom. The pictures of the 899,999 Lebanese (including some total babes) have to be an eye opener. It took some foreign dog like Sharansky to point out the power of freedom to us all; to those of us who will listen. That means our indifferent Left; that morally equivalent foggy eyed cadaverized gang of slobs laying around San Francesspool and other places; the MoveOn dot Org types who used to chant in the 50's that they'd "rather be red than dead," who now shout that they'd "rather be high than die." And especially their teachers in our Universities who have even become anti-Semitic in order to please a new and equal culture; none see anything worth fighting for other than the next government grant to study something safe. Freedom to the Leftys of the Free World means "nothing left to lose," thanks Kristofferson. Indifference to mass murder, torture, gang rapes of women in other distant places mean we mind our own business and let the other "cultures" alone. Who is to say we are better than they? God is dead. Our Constitution and Bill of Rights are relative; it's something we really don't need to get all worked up about. If we'd shut up about it nobody would want all that "gar-bahj" anyway. Gay marriage is more important than a bunch of Third World black people wanting freedom, whatever that is.

Everyone needs to read our Bill of Rights once a year. Everybody living under tyranny thinks we really mean that crap. If we don't mean what it says we should repeal the whole thing. They cause a lot of trouble. They, together with our Constitution, make us the most dangerous country on the face of the earth. When somebody pinioned by the cuffs and irons of tyranny reads the words: "We hold these truths to be self evident (meaning any moron knows these truths)", the world's droppings will always hit the fan. We are a menace to anyone and everyone who takes freedom away. We, because of our Bill of Rights hold up mirrors of shame to all who surrender their freedoms to a government. Kings and dictators hate us and want to destroy us. The Europeans who have given their freedoms away to a super government hate us too. They are supposed to. That is what our system is for.

Lefties want a place to get high and pretend nothing is happening. They will remain indifferent to Evil.

It gets better, Gretchen will be paid $192,000 per year for a job that didn't exist til Denton arrived. In order to settle the outrage the hiring of her girlfriend prompted among employees who had been told that they could not get raises because there was no money, Denton kissed labor's ass and settled all wage demands in favor of the union. So they stopped complaining. Denton will be paid $275,000 per year; ($6,000 more than the last chancellor) there is no record of moving expenses. This happy lesbo family will earn half a million dollars per year PLUS health care, all on the taxpayers. No figures are in on what the pay raise to employees will cost the taxpayers; no news if Indian Gaming revenues can cover the tab. Liberals rule. Rich liberals rule even better. And education, what's that?

When bloggers become fences of stolen goods, they reply that, "I'M A BLOGGER AND I CAN STEAL WHATEVER I WANT." So if you have a business with proprietary data---things you have spent money and years of sweat developing for exclusive use----I can steal it and publish it, or have somebody else steal it for me and publish it, or simply use data somebody else stole and publish it. Why? Because I'm a Blogger and I'm priviliged. Never mind that we destroy a company's ability to pursue their business. What counts is ME.

You will note that almost all of these "bloggers" now posing on TV (Reynolds, Simon etc.) pompously assert that they have a right to steal proprietary data because they ain't making money on it. As if the notoriety they seek isn't the same as money to them. Many are the same gurus who also say that everybody should be able to steal music without the creators of same getting paid. Why? Because we're bloggers and we're special. But according to Simon, HIS precious movies cannot be stolen, nor his novels be stolen.

I believe in copyright. I believe in proprietary data being protected from scum like Reynolds, Simon, and all the rest of the "Blog Community" who think it their right to steal. I hope Apple wins this one and wins it big. If I fence stolen goods I go to jail. They are all fencing stolen goods.

The Da Vinci Code is beyond my area of real expertise so I have refrained from comment on this now current topic, but since some very knowledgeable people are taking it apart I feel compelled to put in my two centavos worth. The more you read about the Bible and the reconstruction of all the stories the more you will be struck with the same "insights" . It is code. The Bible doesn’t mean what it says because the writers or tellers of the stories would have been killed had they told the truth so they created all these documents in order to communicate with one another safely. Once you establish this you can say that the Bible says anything you want it to say.

The major fiction in Dan Brown’s thrilling and entertaining tale is that Constantine was an atheist and rewrote sections of the Bible himself; purged the deity of Magdalene because they hated women; and I leave it to you to find a picture of Magdalene in the famous painting of The Last Supper---hat tip: some good acid makes Magdalene appear; great rack and an ass to die for. The undisputed facts about Constantine are that he had converted to Christianity, caused three huge churches to be built by his mommy after he killed his wife and son (how's that for Christian?): The Church of the Nativity at Bethlehem, Church of the Eleona on Jerusalem's Mount of Olives, The Hagia Sophia (Holy Wisdom). and Hagia Eirene (Holy Peace). The Dan Brown story "proves" that Constantine was a Pagan because he was only baptized on his death bed; that is true, BUT he leaves out the fact that everybody was baptized on their death beds so that sin would be cleansed and they could go straight to Heaven. There is a different sacrament called Extreme Unction offering an avoidance of Purgatory under certain circumstances (no recent homocides, etc.) that was added later. What is really crucial about the Da Vinci Code is that many of the Dead Sea Scrolls written in 100AD match exactly with Bible written in the 12th century. So much for Constantine's revisionism; it didn't happen. A word of caution here as well. The Dead Sea Scrolls were written by the Essenes, a community of esoterics who were in rebellion against both the Old Testament sacrifice system and the New Testament Messiah. It is also worthy to note that the notoriously Left, Rockefeller Foundation, is involved in rewriting the Bible in light of Dead Sea Scroll fragments, fragments that include the confiscation of personal property to the group and the coming of two Messiahs: one a religious prophet, the other a civil leader.

Atlanta shootings from experience: Much is being writ and spoke by a bunch of TV talking heads about the situation in Atlanta. No one will mention the fact that no woman could possibly handle a prisoner of that size because this would "demean" women, who we all know are equal to men in every respect. Here's what happened to me, a long time ago.

Me: 18 years old, 5'10" and 175 pounds; meaning I was in decent shape. He: 18 years old, 6'3" and 240 pounds. He is the second strongest guy I have ever met and one bad ass dude. He had been violent many times, culminating in a violent spree in an Asiatic port that ended up seriously injuring four natives and several Shore Patrol sailors before he was subdued, put in irons, and placed in a small boat for transportation to a ship anchored a mile out in the harbor where he was supposed to remain in the brig til brought to shore for trial.

Our commanding officer disliked me intensely. I was forging his name on overnight liberty passes for our entire squadron, and in my capacity as a supply guy who knew where every spare part in the Far East was located, sort of had him by the balls. He decided to send me out to the ship armed with a .45, get the bad guy, and bring him ashore to the brig there. I knew he hoped that at the very least I’d end up in the bay with my arms broken thereby solving all his discipline problems.

To continue, I get on the little boat to go out to the ship scared out of my fucking mind. I was hoping for rough seas so I wouldn’t have to go out but the seas were almost dead calm. It was a beautiful afternoon for my funeral. Our little boat literally skimmed the flat water as we traversed the mile to the ship in what seemed like two minutes flat. I was sweating, felt nauseous, and I was shaking. My brain was spinning seeking a method to get out of my suicide mission---I could fall into the sea, hit my head on something with enough force to cause profuse bleeding, or simply shit my pants in fear and claim incapacity. I was too scared to do any of those things. Defecting to Communist China crossed my mind as I climbed the laddar to the host ship.

Once aboard the prison ship I inquired as to the whereabouts of the ship’s brig. “What for?” was the reply from the Officer of the Deck. “To get the prisoner and bring him back to the base, sir” was my full vibrato soprano reply.

“Hell you don’t have to do that. He’s down on A deck in the mess hall playing poker with the crew.” And he directed me to the mess hall on "A" deck. My stomach developed that full feeling, like anything I swallowed would come right back up. This meant that my bad guy was uncuffed, unshackled, and unguarded. I tentatively approached the mess, fearing the worst should this bad guy decide he didn’t want to go ashore to the brig. I entered the mess deck and sure enough my bad guy was playing poker, and losing, with five members of the crew.

“You here for me Howie?” asked the bad guy---I had known him for six fearful months and heard of his feats of mayhem. After I mumbled assent he announced that he was going to play three more hands and then leave with me. Now, what the fuck was I to do? Pull out my gun and shoot him? I had no cuffs, was totally out manned in the physical match, and didn’t want to be there. So I sat down on a bench at a different table and told him OK. Thoughts of defecting to a whore house in Hong Kong flashed through my brain as I fearfully watched the game.

True to his word, after three hands he got up, picked up his “ditty bag”–the small bag containing shaving stuff, which I was afraid to search—and led me back on deck whereupon we both got back into the little boat to head into shore. I stationed myself on the second seat of the boat and he sat in the back facing me. This meant I was six feet away from him so I could supposedly pull my gun and shoot him down should he try to jump me. In matter of fact the son of a bitch was so big that it would take a granade to bring him down. He calmly told me that if it wasn’t for the fact that he liked me he could take my gun and shove it up my ass if he wanted to. He looked at me carefully and told me to stop shaking because he wasn't going to do anything.

I was his prisoner. He was not mine. I escorted him to the brig where my relief took over. I relate this story to you so you know what the deal is when a violent prisoner is alone with a physical inferior. Mr. Bad Guy was sent to the Tokyo Stockade for a long term, but believe it or not he straightened out his life, left the Navy, became a college grad with a dam good career, which is the reason I don’t mention his name right now. That and fear that he might find me.

I point out that once turned over to the Shore Patrol at the brig he was always "walked" with an unarmed large guy at his side and followed by an armed and ready to shoot other guy. He could not have caused trouble. Three are now dead in Atlanta because nobody thought a 51 year old grandmother who was 5'1" couldn't handle a bad guy.

CORRECTION of sorts: I posted HERE regarding the bankruptcy bill that has sailed through Congress that half of all bankruptcies are caused by Medical Bills. Several emailers, especially Rick G. who referred me to this well researched piece by law professor Todd Zywicki in which he picks apart all the bad research that has been done to come up with this phony statistic. I do not correct my opinion that the Democrats are going to run killer ads based on this bill.

Notes on a Zig Zag paper for Saturday: Travel by air has become an exasperating chore. Every item in my luggage was searched when leaving LAX a week ago; they opened every book, looked inside every shoe. The search took ten minutes and the line behind me for one flight was more than 100. The plane was late leaving because too many passengers are allowed to board planes with carryon bags that are too large for the overhead compartments so they stand in the aisle pounding the thing in. This means that the next passenger has no room to store a bag and further delays boarding by seeking a different loacation. Multiply this by a hundred and you have delays of 20 minutes. Everyone I spoke with in Florida had the same experiences on other flights and the same delays. My luggage was not searched leaving Ft. Lauderdale but the bottleneck on board was the same because of too large carryons was the same.

Anybody seriously think that shit teams like UCLA, Memphis State, and most of the rest have any chance at all in the NCAA? Teams that can't win their own conferences or can't win their conference tourney should stay home and cry. Only interest in early rounds is local and for degenerate gamblers. Ratings will be shit, again.

I could end Global Poverty in a single growing season by giving poor countries genetically engineered food. It won't happen because that would hurt EU farmers.

The MSM is now obviously employed in an attempt to destroy our military by smearing everyone they can and ridiculing every policy from the Defense Department. The article he attributes to the LAT is actually in the formally LAT owned NewsDay that is now owned by the Tribune Corp. NewsDay continues the anti-military attack in spite of the near catastrophic circulation drop for both LAT and NewsDay. Today's NYT features a page one story of prisoner torture in Afghanistan/Iraq, again the purpose and slant of the story is to smear the entire military. I'd only add that once again a woman officer is responsible and wonder if there isn't some vicarious sex thing involved in beating up males while women watch and have orgasms.

There is a book climbing the NYT Best Seller list called Confessions of an Economic Hit Man written by John Perkins [not the John M Perkins of weird shit fame]. If true, and this is a huge IF, it could really blow the lid off this country and our processes. It is summarized HERE and it is well worth your time. Saudi terrorists still roam the world and if you think that Saudi Arabia without the Saud family will be anything other than a Wahabbi state, you have a better drug connection than I do. Afghanistan is once again the opium/heroin capital of the known universe and those farmers cannot be allowed to get rich (for them) off of this trade forever. Pakistan is an atomic reactor with serious leaks, and then there is always Iran. Those of you who are ordering French wine again now that France is helping us in Lebanon should think again. France is helping because France has huge economic interests in Lebanon and the French are, well the French. The late great Hariri, the Lebanese billionaire killed in the bomb explosion, was the crony capitalist of all crony capitalists. Only his family benefitted from his works {they own most of the developed real estate, banks, and new hotels} and it is not likely that Assad and company will let all that slide. Hariri was the Arab businessman clone, a guy who kept all ownership within within family and tribe; he did well by doing good. Things look a lot better than they did six months ago, but we have a long long war ahead of us.

Markets: the massive speculation in oil futures is once again running the price up. It looks like world wide futures open interest is in excess of a billion and a half barrels. Way way too much, and I don't know how much spec there is in Hong Kong or Tokyo. BTW Larry Kudlow has a good piece today. Nobody can comment because Blogger comments are shut down, again. Dollar slide continues. The recent slide can only be explained if Greenspan is not telling the truth about Fed Policy. If the supply of dollars has shrunk the slide cannot continue. Schadenfreude special for all us LA Times haters. Their circ is down almost 10% and they are pretending all is OK by giving the papers away in hotels and calling it circulation. The only people who read it are old folks, women, and hard lefties.

LOS ANGELES - The Los Angeles Times released a smaller national print edition this week in New York and Washington, D.C., abandoning a plan to switch its East Coast readers to electronic versions of the newspaper.

The revamped 24-page, black and white format measures 11-by-17 inches and excludes paid advertising, Times spokeswoman Martha Goldstein said. It is aimed at news makers and other influential readers, with a circulation of about 1,500 in Washington and a few hundred in New York, mostly free.

All they get is a stapled at the top white paper. Good, it couldn't happen to a better bunch of liars.

Note on a Zig Zag paper: New Bankruptcy law is both unnecessary and a subsidy for banks. I have two friends who are members of Debtors Anonymous, a Twelve Step group for compulsive debtors, and both have told me stories about people getting all the credit cards they want as soon as they file for bankruptcy. "Nobody should ever loan me a dime," said one. "I have stiffed more companies than fleas on a dog, and I can get a credit card any time I want to." He doesn't use cards at all, any more. Nor do I, it's a very simple system: I don't spend money I don't have. If lenders would screen their "sick client base" there would be no bankruptcy "problem" for them. They want to stop "rich" people from going BK? All they have to do is stop them from borrowing. Write your senator, this new BK bill will hurt the working class and below, and make it a cinch that banks will continue to issue credit to those who are not deserving of credit. An added note: I was behind a woman at the store a few weeks ago and she pulled out a wallet bulging with at least twenty cards. She had to file through about eight of them to find one that had enough left to charge her purchase. Should she have a card? I don't think so.

Notes from those still struggling in the Leftist seaweed----Last evening a group of them were watching The Dan Rather's rant while drinking fire water inside a beach house in the Florida Keys. Rather was his usual "fair" self as he "reported" on the shooting at the Iraqi checkpoint. Everybody in the room was screaming about the shooting as another U.S. slaughter of innocents. I yelled in the details not included in the Rather Blather; fast moving car, erratic moving car, the fact that at least 100 U.S. Military have been killed by car bombs near checkpoints, the ransom of $2 million, the fact that the reporter is top dog at a Commie paper in Italy, and the fact that the car didn't stop in spite of repeated warnings. Silence in the room for ten seconds. Then the cry, "What has all that got to do with a deliberate murder?"

However two women approached me later and asked me where I had obtained the info about the kidnapping. I told them a few places. One of them responded to the effect that a hell of a lot of the news is wrong.

Is AP Left? Do alligators shit in lakes? This roundup from a tiny South Eastern News paper that prints only AP dispatches.

A woman named Duff quotes Michael Moore as a reliable source to back up her story about the RCMP killings. Another woman leads off a story about a traffic accident by blaming the SUV, the name of the driver, a former local high school football star, leads off the third paragraph. A piece from the LA Times smears U.S. soldiers in a piece called "Ramadi Madness", another from the WaPo calls Iraq "in crises," the shooting of the guard for the Italian reporter is blamed solely on U.S. "shooters," without mention that the car was approaching at a high rate of speed and refused to slow down. The MSM is bad but the Not Ready for Main Stream Media (NRMSM) is too one sided to believe. Oh, and the editorial section spends an entire column blasting any SS reform. There is not one word about what is going on in the mid east other than a piece on Syria pulling everyone out (not true) and another piece about the Palistinian "situation" that places full responsibility on Israel. People who read it believe it.

HughHeweitt is asking people to write to the LA Times regarding their disgusting article praising North Korea (birth place of John Dean,syphlis and on line dating). I know my readers, and I know most of you are far too busy to compose a letter, especially to a newspaper none of you read. The headline following the U.S. deaths is about a bunch of fucking dolphins stranded on a beach. A terrorist was caught in Miami and the news slants that he is innocent and being framed by the FBI. Lots of people only get their news via local TV and those people don't know what is going on. Only reason I'm blogging today is because it's raining. U.S. Military Not a Realistic Answer because they can't win. The most brilliant military theorist of the last couple of centuries was a guy named Carl von Clausewitz. He laid out everything in a single boring book called Vom Kriege and everybody read him and agreed with him. Wars were “an act of violence carried to its utmost bounds,” which meant both sides try to kill everything that moves. His theory of war was fairly simple: the side with the most guys wins if both sides have equal technology. During WWII Eisenhower rejected the Patton demand to be let loose behind the German lines during the Battle of the Bulge and opted instead to confront the Nazis with massive force. Ike was a Clausewitzian and from his military education knew that a smaller force like Patton’s Third Army would probably lose to a larger German Army that had the superior technology of the massive Tiger Tanks [the clouds prevented air warfare]. In the end the savagery of both World Wars made everyone see that “violence carried to its utmost bounds” meant atomic warfare on a grand scale. Another way of saying, “fuck Clausewitz, we gotta find a patron saint.”

OK, so Clausewitz was dead but no othrer theory replaced him so we had a cold war with two huge armies with equal technology staring at each other for half a century.

What the hell is going on, now? First, Clausewitz said that wars are fought by states and that the states use unrestrained force. He further said that war was “the language of politics, a language that spoke in bullets and force rather than words or gestures.” His main tenant was that wars were only fought for political purposes; “an instrument of policy.” This did not mean that a political party or politician ran a war. What he meant, and what he stated later in his famous book, was that war was simply an instrument of the State, insofar as the State employs violence for political ends—which means territory or other riches. Both Clausewitz and the famous Chinese military writer, Sun Tsu listed the “favor of heaven” or luck as the most important factor in winning a war.

We are now in a different world and must think in a much different way, but the Left doesn't see that. The “modern” Left is frozen into Clausewitzian rules and theory of war that revolve around policy or interest. This means that the Left cannot envision a war that doesn’t include Iraqi oil, profits for corporate interests, or a political control of a state in order to enrich business. I’ve got news for you: the rules of Clausewitz formally ended in 1945 with the conclusion of World War II in which alliances, grievances, and colonial territories were at stake for both sides. The fact that the war was a matter of survival for Western Civilization was not lost on most people.

Today we see the college educated Left get most of their ideas from English, Drama, and Ethnic Studies professors who spout little epigrams of war al-la Mr. Clausewitz, a man they never bothered to study. Many professors throw in passages from “The Prince” by Machiavelli to prove that leaders lie and are deceitful so their students will “learn.” What they are learning are things that are at least fifty years out of date. And are wrong.

What both Machiavelli and Clausewitz missed were wars of survival. When a society sees itself threatened with extinction all the rules are off. That is why the Algerians put up with close to a million dead to run the French off their land. Israel was willing to risk destruction by the numerically superior Arabs in the 1967 war and lashed out to survive. Ditto the Vietnamese when they became convinced that their survival was at stake.

A classical Army that is structured in the old way cannot possibly win a war when their purpose is territory, or replacing a government, or some other esoteric reason when confronted by a civilization convinced their survival is at stake. There are very few times in world history that a society faced with extinction didn’t exact a dreadful toll on their foes even when they lost.

What the Left doesn’t want to face, and what Europe won’t face, is that we are in a battle for survival against radical Islam. The purpose of Islam is to make everybody else a Muslim and if you don’t agree to convert they are entitled to kill you; in fact they will go to Heaven if they do kill you. There is a totally boring book which has become a new Bible of Warfare of sorts that has been read and re-read by every officer and sergeant in the military. It’s called The Transformation of War by a guy named Martin van Cleveld. In it he describes past wars and what they were fought for; religion, territory, women, (my favorite part), etc. etc. etc. What we are looking at right now is a war being fought by Islam that is 350 years out of date. The last religious war ended in 1648 [the Thirty Years War] and from then on we had wars of power calculations by countries. This stuff ended in 1947 with the formation of the UN which banned wars for territory. This meant that nobody would recognize new borders.

The college educated (mis-educated) young have been taught doctrine that is both Communist—business or multi-national corporations steal from Third World countries and make slaves out of their workers---- together with old world self interest. This is mixed with a notion gleaned from the imagined interpretations of both Machiavelli and Clausewitz, that declare war is an extension of politics—interpreted to mean that greedy politicians hook up with big business so they can take over the assets of another country. Neither Machiavelli nor Clausewitz said it but plenty of college profs say that they did. The last war for territory, or near war, was the attempt of the Brits and French to keep the Suez Canal.

I defy you to write a paper that proves wars are just an extension of politics. War has been an extension of policy.

Cutting to the Chase

What we have hoped to do in Iraq is to present the Iraqi people with the scenario that their entire survival depends on becoming a democracy, to make it their war for survival against a band of terrorists; not insurgents, not Holy warriors, not Islam, but terrorists. People with no agenda other than raw power. When survival happens all the “rules” change. The terrorists are able to convince a decreasing number of people that they are in a fight for survival; that killing themselves in order for their religion to triumph is a guarantee of an eternity in Heaven. If we are to believe many of the Iraqi bloggers, the Iraqis are turning terrorists over to both their own security forces and to coalition forces because they see the stakes and believe they can win.

The American Left, or at least many of their leaders [Hillary, some at Newsweek and the Washington Post] are beginning to understand the stakes. We cannot afford to lose. Listen to the new debating tactics from the Left over the next weeks. A lot of this was articulated on Meet the Press last Sunday. What we will hear includes:
1. We went to war for the right reasons and we should have been told we are in it for survival
2. The war itself was conducted brilliantly but the peace part was bungled by an Administration that failed.
3. We need to rally together and win this “thing.”
4. We absolutely cannot afford to lose.
5. Our purpose is now clear to all: we are in this to split the Islamic states apart and to create the soil for change in other countries. Enough democracies and terrorism won’t happen. It is interesting to note that Maureen Dowd did NOT go along, she is a Clausewitzian ridden with guilt over her percieved idea of our purposes.

Meanwhile the Leftist professoriat will tell their charges about the evils of Machiavelli, never mentioning his final sentence to the Italian citizenry

But what is the truth? Consider this: look at any map of the world and what do you see? A bunch of lines that were arbitrarily drawn by somebody some place that said “this is Bumfuckistan, this is Pukesalvania and so on” and everybody in the world agreed to it. Why is China China? England makes sense but France? Romania? Countries are a relatively new invention. Before countries there were mainly gangs, city states, mobs of robber barons, shit like that. What is Iraq right now? Gangs, criminals, a couple of armies and a bunch of fake borders drawn by the Brits and Frogs who were carving up the world. How can any regular army handle things? Unless somebody is willing to blow away an entire population. Somebody like You Know Who.
This guy van Cleveld doesn’t have a clue on how to fight these small terrorist wars with conventional forces. Can any country survive a protracted terrorist type of war where the HQ is a garbage dump, their bomb making equipment is a second floor apartment, and the army is ten guys? Ten guys times several thousand "ten guys" all willing to die for Allah? The only solution, one of which we are partially using in Iraq, is a very old one: a mercenary enforcement. Private armies that will be motivated by money, pussy, and loot. Just the way it used to be before we had countries. Guys who will decapitate enemies and hang them in the public square for everyone to see. A government hired Mafia. That’s the way it used to be and Van Cleveld says it’s the only way we will survive this return to the past. It’s what worked before. Queen Elizabeth hired Sir Francis Drake and a bunch of other pirates and let them run wild in order to win an unconventional war. The Conquistadors were mercenaries. Wars used to be mercenaries vs mercenaries and sometimes they were bought off for higher wages right in the middle of a war. The Brits used Hessian mercenaries against us in 1776.

I know, somehow it’s just not the way it’s done. Scary shit having nothing to do with Clausewitz or Sun Tsu or anybody else who wrote about war in the olden days. This is today.
