The Left presents its spin, and it took only 24 hours. Their clear pupose is to present the election as rigged. Here's some quotes, keeping in mind that the Left websites are silent as the grave:
"We"(the Democratic Party Left) have to talk with the candidates who lost....this is key. They will attempt to sew the threads of suspicion among Iraqis and losing candidates that the losers were robbed. Fuel for the terrorists.
The voting is supect because too many were shut out (just like their claims in this country regarding "minorities:). They are already calling this a "so called election" so that everyone everywhere will jump on this bandwagon.
The election doesn't cover up the incompetence of Bush. Is the elction worth 1,400 American lives? Their answer is "no." There were no WMDs in Iraq and the nation building is a cover up.
Turnout is "alleged turnout"---MSNBC---leading everyone to believe that somehow the U.S. manipulated the vote totals.

And now....all the Left "pundits" are calling for immediate withdrawl of U.S. troops. That's just so Iraq can't survive their election. Chris Matthews will lead it all off for MSNBC tonight.

Kaus may have an explaination that is too sensible: Going hard Left is where the really big money is. Howard Dean showed how to raise tons of money from the internet Left and Boxer clearly linked her attacks on the Senate floor to successful fund raising. The Left, including Soros and his gangster capitalists, Hollywood, together with the print media have billions to toss to the Left.

Why Soros? Financial rabble like Marc Rich and George Soros depend on corrupt dictatorships for their rapacious raids on the currencies and economies of other countries. They slither out of their sewers and cess pools into the cash filled pockets of eager to be corrupted similar thugs. Now they can't raid Iraq. They can't raid SE Asia, and it is possible they can no longer depend on the corruption in Arab states. It's getting harder for international financial criminals to earn an dishonest billion. You can't make any money looting the Congo. Elections in countries with money must be stopped.

Markets after the Iraq election. Dollar will explode to probably .86 by the end of the week and the stock market will roar. Why? Success. Everybody loves a winner and the U.S. is the big winner this week to the money guys. Gold will tank, possibly under $400. Even crude could come down, but I'm not into that right now; too tough.

Iraq elections and reality: make no mistake, this is a great moment. Is it a great moment on the way up? Only time will tell. There is still lack of drinking water in most of the country; electricity is on only in two hour spurts, and the unemployment rate is 50%; this is what must be addressed NOW. Public works could put everyone to work in weeks, if we are prepared. With Rumsfeld running things I really doubt that we are prepared. Democracy must pay off and pay off pretty quickly. The insurgents are coming in from Syria and we have to act on this stinking little cess pool of a country right now.

And it looks as if I have been mostly wrong about Iraqis not really wanting freedom and democracy. Like I said also, Russia was the llast place Marx and Lenin thought Communism would take hold. Iraqis risked their lives to vote and many have died, at least four times the number of Americans. It's too bad that the media spin is that this election is good for Bush. It is good for America.

A number of Mosul's Kurdish residents have defied death threats and an unstable security situation and headed towards the polls, but in some other Iraqi cities no one is voting. As polls opened across the country, early signs showed a poor turnout of voters in Mosul. US soldiers were seen driving around city blocks asking why residents were not voting. Despite a heavy US and Iraqi National Guard presence and no civilian vehicular traffic, six explosions rocked the city. The general hospital had no immediate word on casualties. Voter turnout was heavy in Al-Qadisiya district of the city, however. A polling station for the city's Kurdish population is located in the heart of the district. Polling stations in several towns in Iraq have not opened five hours after nationwide voting started on Sunday, the country's electoral commission said. "In Latifiya, Mahmudiya and Yusufiya, polling stations have not yet opened their doors," commission spokesman Farid Ayar told reporters. ... In war-ravaged Falluja, nearly all residents stayed at home despite the presence of five polling stations. Only one man was reported to have voted.

Under pressure from the Bush Administration, political parties campaigning in this weekend's so-called "election" in Iraq did not proposed timetables for the withdrawal of US troops from their homeland.

This constraint upon the debate effectively denied the Iraqi people an honest choice. Polls suggest that the majority of Iraqis favor the quick withdrawal of US forces, yet the voters of that battered land were cheated out of a campaign that could have allowed them to send a clear signal of opposition to the occupation.

Despite this disconnect, when the voting was done, Administration aides declared a victory in President's Bush's crusade for "liberty." And thus was born the latest lie of an Administration that has built its arguments for the invasion and occupation of Iraq on a foundation of petty deception and gross deceit.

That democracy has been denied in Iraq is beyond question. The charade of an election, played out against a backdrop of violence so unchecked that a substantial portion of the electorate-- particularly Sunni Muslims--avoided the polls for reasons of personal safety, featuring candidates who dared not speak their names and characterized by a debate so stilted that the electorate did not know who or what it is electing.

Now that this farce of an "election" in Iraq is done, the fight for democracy should move from Baghdad to Washington. It is in the US Capitol that members of Congress, if they are serious about spreading democracy abroad and strengthening it at home, need to begin advocating for the rapid withdrawal of US troops from Iraq.

Americans need to recognize that, in addition to the lives and dollars this occupation has cost the United States, it has also assaulted democratic ideals handed down by the founders of America's experiment with democracy. George Washington, Thomas Jefferson and their kind did not warn casually against the "entangling alliances" that go with empire building. Having revolted themselves against an occupying force, they well recognized the necessity that democracy be homegrown.

"We should have nothing to do with conquest," warned Jefferson, who believed the US must lead by example, not by force. The invasion and occupation of other lands would, the founders feared, turn America into precisely the sort of empire against which they had so recently rebelled.

When he served as Secretary of State, John Quincy Adams explained the principle best: "(America) knows best that by enlisting under other banners than her own, were they even the banners of foreign independence, she would involve herself beyond the power of extrication, in all the wars of interest and intrigue, of individual avarice, envy, and ambition, which assume the colors and usurp the standard of freedom."

None of the twisted "spin" about spreading democracy that will be mouthed in coming days by members of the Bush Administration, its allies in Congress and its amen corner in the media will be sufficient to counter the truth handed down by those who founded the American democracy.

Liberty is not spread at gunpoint, nor by the occupation of distant lands. There will be no real democracy in Iraq until the occupation of that country has ended.
Surprise? Most of the Left blogs and websites don't even talk abou the Iraqi elections at all. It's as if they never happened.

recently returned in September from a successful
combat tour in Iraq only to begin a battle for his own
life in the United States.

Lance Cpl. Christopher R. LeBleu, a native of Lake
Charles, La., is currently in very critical condition
in Loma Linda University Hospital, Calif., for an
unexplained complete liver failure.

The Marine came back Sept. 9, 2004, from Iraq where he
conducted support and stabilization operations as a
rifleman with 3rd Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment. The
month after his return to the United States, he
married his hometown sweetheart, Melany.

The 22-year-old is not expected to last past than the
next 48 hours. He may recover if a complete, not
partial, liver donor is found. A complete liver
donation has to come from a deceased donor.

A liver donor is desperately needed to save LeBleu.

must have a matching blood type. LeBleu is O positive.

Barbara Boxer has raised a huge amount of money after her display in the Senate blasting Rice, the LA Times is "reporting" in tomorrow's paper. I think it shows how Left the entire party has become. She is saying what they want to hear, and I think Dean is a shoo in for DNC Chair.

Saint Hillary and Sex (her latest):I put up the Faith Links on the left so I could look at them once in a while figuring I could pick up some different points of reference. I refer you today to this site which peeks at the Hillary Clinton candidacy from her point of view on sex, at least her view on sex this week. She has taken positions on abortion and sexual “morality” that don’t make sense when looked at from a certain POV. She has said that pre-marital sex is unquestionably good. The only pre-marital sex that Clinton disavows (or seems to disavow) is that among teenagers: it’s bad bad bad til you graduate from high school, and then it’s really good. What kind of sense does that make? Take a read, their POV [which I doubt that most kids would agree with] is something I hadn’t considered.

REAL MOVEMENTS START FROM THE BOTTOM UP

There is a similarity between child weaning and political movements in America. Look at the similar developments of the Right to Life and the movement to increase diversity of faculty on campus.

Think of it this way: Right to Life has grown over twenty years til it is now a majority view in the country, albeit a small majority view. This has happened in spite of----I argue because of---the Liberal Establishment completely banning mention of the movement in any media for two decades. Nobody is allowed to show a one month old aborted fetus on TV; a three monther; or any aborted fetus, because to do so would show a real baby. One with head, arms, legs, and eyes; not a wart or a boil that could remotely be considered a part of a woman's body; a part to be cut out and tossed into the nearest sewer just because. Every character on every TV show is pro-abortion. Those against are depicted as hicks, down and outers, and morons. There is not a TV or Movie that isn't pro-abortion.

So how come the exact opposite is now the narrow majority view, and not just among the Red State morons?

As for college and university faculty diversity? For at least forty years---I would argue sixty years-- the faculties at all universities have not only been Left, but intolerantly Left. Left to the point that they don't allow anyone with a differing point of view to be hired. Left to the degree that far too many teachers refuse to allow any differing opinion in their classes. Yet we are about to see a major change in this "system” too. Faculty yelp that there are disgusting fascists agitating in the hallowed halls of Liberalism who want to include “conservative” professors. How come?

Everybody
likes the system.

Everybody wants abortion.

Think of it this way: our entire culture is built on defying the King---be his name George II or Clinton I. Taxation without representation. Keep them Brit soldiers out of my home. Nobody is going to tell me what to say. Fuck you just in case. Whenever we have decided to asphyxiate other points of view while still in their incubators those POVs end up flourishing in secret like a virus. Til a virus explodes into the disease itself, infecting everyone. If you want to succeed in this country, become aggressive victims just like the Christians in Ancient Rome hiding underground in the catacombs, plotting. I would argue that Communism became very big largely because we banned them from public discourse. Conservatism has been the beneficiary of media wide censorship since after WWII. It grew in secret; under every other leaf and rock; in every dark corner of every library in the country. People started to talk. To actually think.

What is going on? Underground movements grow precisely because nobody will debate them. They build and arm themselves with argument while hidden from view. When they finally erupt into full flower there is nobody around equipped to debate their time tested arguments. They then grow exponentially because opponents have nothing to say. Look at the pathetic Democrats sliming Rice, Gonzales, and the rest of the Bush people instead of actually looking at who and what they are. Look at the abortionists ridiculing the Right to Lifers. Nobody has effective argument because nobody has ever listened or seriously examined the “new” POVs.

Have any of you ever examined the total program of the Right to Life movement? Examined the costs of delaying death in old age? Examined the ramifications of Right to Life in all cases? Hell no. Nobody is equipped to do it other than to argue about killing babies while still in the womb, an act that most of us believe is motivated by money: "The goddam brat will take me out of work so those dam men will advance while I rot in the maternity ward." Abortionists seem to be possessed by envy directed at men who don’t have to “waste time” carrying a child for nine months and get to work and advance while women rot in the home. “Those fucking men.” They seethe with rage.

Right to Life is a philosophy going far beyond not wanting to murder the unborn. Rush Limbaugh, as well as Debbie Schlussel and other pro lifers, are now attacking the movie “Million Dollar Baby,” a movie with a heart rending plot that leaves the hero with only two horrible alternatives. He cannot live with either choice . Limbaugh and others are acting out a censorship long practiced by the abortion movement. They don’t want an opposite POV presented effectively. A POV that is expressed in a movie. A movie that ends with an awful choice presented in an emotionally and intellectually jarring drama must be dismissed. Limbaugh tried his best to hurt the movie by revealing the entire plot, a device used by the less than clear thinking Ms. Schlussel. “Don’t see it, it’s bad for you,” is the mantra, and if you do see it here’s the plot so you can’t enjoy yourselves.

So it seems that “conservative” professors will have to be hired at long last and that some actual campus debate and alternatives will be available, and then, following the script, some of them will become fascists.

They keep freedom from entering, it is true. But when they are removed, the garbage--the freelance terrorists, the grievance merchants, the ethnic nationalists--pops out all over. Yes, freedom is good and to be strived for. But cleaning up the garbage is not pretty. And it sometimes leaves the neighborhood in an even bigger mess than it had been.
Problem with her piece is that while she correctly identifies the "hundreds of thousands" of gangsters and thugs released by freedom, she has nothing to offer but the French.

Re; the so-called racist satire on a radio station in NY, I don't think anybody is getting this. I've been working around tons of blacks for years. They are so racist, so viciously anti-Asian, anti-Hispanic, and anti-Semitic it's pathological. We're talking hate here. Whites who work in majority white work places never hear it. Just try working where Blacks are either a majority or a plurality. We had to make a management decision to remove all Hispanics (Mexican Americans) from management contact with Black employees or the Blacks would have quit or started punching. The most racist group in the US is Blacks.

Colin May has a major article over at Eurosoc. He's a Canadian writer who blogs over at Innocents Abroad. I'm never one to respect any liberals unless they are willing to sell me drugs at a discount, but a guy named Richard Brookhiser has written a terrific piece in the very very liberal The New York Observer. The Observer is honest. They blasted Hillary when she ran for the Senate, and have taken other stands. A couple of outtakes from the piece:

OK guru, how come the dollar went up yesterday when it was all over the papers that them EU pieces of shit pulled their dollars out of our banks?
#1 the dollar has turned up because the Fed wants it to turn.
#2 There are a lot of ways to make the dollar stronger besides raising rates.
Example: Let's say that the Eurotrash pulls out a billion dollars. All The Fed has to do is raise the percentage of liquidity banks have to hold in reserves. I don't know how many trillions are in our banks but one tenth of one percent would more than make up for the withdrawl AND would take money out of the system (fewer dollars available) making the dollar STRONGER. Don't believe anything you read in the papers. Their stuff is written by sociology majors and jounalism majors who hate capitalism, hate this country, and hope we go broke. Plus they have to gret their pieces written before the Communist Party meeting after work. THE DOLLAR HAS TURNED UP.

Alameda and San Francisco counties ranked lowest in the state, receiving a score of 3 on a 1 to 10 scale devised to test overall well-being. Questions included limitations on activity or work due to emotional problems, sadness, (fucking sadness????) anxiety, binge drinking (this covers every college kid at Berkeley) and perceived need for mental health services.

The two counties had a high proportion of residents experiencing significant emotional problems. (Which has to include the four Berkeley profs)

I thought it was so stupid that I couldn't figure out what the stink was. So I checked. The "stink" revolves around an almost New York Times mis-identification of an organization, a website, and the producers of a cartoon type propaganda movie to all grade schools that advocates "being nice to everybody regardless of anything." Lots of us abhor all propaganda no matter what the hidden message, but this particular propaganda movie has no homosexual connection and in no way advocates homosexuality.

I'd never been to Dobson's website and I'd never paid any attention to Focus on the Family, which is Dobson's org. Dr. Dobson's website is here and all you have to do is read the first page to be astonished at the Sponge Bob controversey. This guy is brilliant. He is highly educated. There is no excuse for he and his "people" to confuse websites.

Here's the stupid story. There is a gay website called "We are Family." It IS a gay site, BUT their website has the URL: WAF. Their banner clearly identifies the org as "We Are Family." But in no way are they plugging the "Sponge Bob Square Pants" video. I can understand the rush to judgement, but if I have stature I must check things out.

There is another organization called the We are Family Foundation which is HERE. These are the people who actually produced a "let's be nice to each other" video featuring Sponge Bob and a ton of other cartoon characters. The site screams that they have produced "We Are Family Childrens Video." This site is in no way connected with any homosexual agenda. Dobson attacked this foundation confusing it with homosexual "We Are Family" website and organization.

Dobson is not only wrong, he has assisted in his own lynching by the secular Left. Nobody as smart as he is should ever make a mistake like this, but he did. It is HIS mistake, not his underlings (the buck DOES stop here) and Dobson has now made himself a standing target for the secular Left. I have no idea how he spins his way out of this, I doubt that he will take full responsibility for his mistake and apologize. That would be too easy. But the confusion is very easy to understand.

Strategy Page has a piece up today that more or less expresses surprise at the bribery that takes place in Iraq. Well here's news: bribery, known throughout the Arab world as bakshish, has been going on since the Angel Gabriel appeared to Muhammad. I posted this almost a year ago:
Whether you call it mordida (the bite), un pot-de-vin, or just bribery, nowhere on the planet is it as universal as in Middle East. There, under the term "bakshish", it controls every form of business or government service. You cannot get a job without bakshish, roads don't get built, you can't sell so much as a date on the street without bakshish.

Buy stock? Oh no! A powerful person (or people)simply takes 10% of the stock and agrees to pay for the stock when the accrued dividends match the stock price at time of "purchase"; in addition he gets a seat on the board of directors PLUS a salary. In exchange, the business won't have tariff problems, labor problems, or any problems. Judges take money from both sides and routinely rule in favor of the biggest bribe (he keeps both bribes); hospitals have two sections, one for the people who have paid a bribe and one for those who have not.

Hospital doctors are the ones who paid the most in bribes to the government guy in charge of hospitals, business executives are where they are only because of bakshish, army officers, artists whose works are shown, and so on, pay bakshish. It seeps into every facet of society. This has been going on for thousands of years. When you pair bakshish with the "shame/honor" of the society at large you have hell on earth. Any criticism of a doctor puts shame on the doctor. To regain his "honor" he will go to the guy above him, the one to whom he paid bakshish in order to get his job in the first place, and the guy above him will go after the complainer and perhaps put him in jail. Nobody cares if the patient dies....unless the patient had paid bakshish to somebody much higher than either of them, etc., etc., etc.

It is a nightmare because any complaint is shame. Praise is honor. Everyone walks the line of shame, honor, bribery. Naturally everybody lies in that society. It is the only way a man can stay alive. The main reason everyone comments on the extreme politeness of Arabs is that every word is measured in honor/shame/bakshish. Who are you really? This is who I am (pretend). This food is good (because I might be killed). Everyone honors everyone and lies like hell to get what they may want. If your son wants a government job and goes to your tribal leader to ask for one the tribal leader cannot say "no", because a "no" would shame both his family and his position as leader of the tribe. He has to "see what I can do". Then he may have to go to the head of another tribe who works in the correct section of the government. Haggling is done. If the government guy already "owes" a favor then the deal can be done relatively quickly, perhaps for a consideration later. Otherwise a deal must be made so that nobody is shamed. The unqualified kid becomes an official for the right consideration and everybody has honor. The parents of the kid "owes", the kid "owes", the tribal leader looks strong, the father of the kid looks like a strong parent and so on. It is a society built on lies.

Right now we are in a place where the Saudi family tells Americans one story and a completely different one to the Arabs on TV at home. This is normal. Nothing wrong with it. What is really going on? Honor is going on. The Arab people know what was told to Americans and by telling the opposite story to them on TV the Saud family shows "honor" by both lying to the Americans and getting away with it. But suppose the Saudis told us the truth and lied to their own people? That's OK too, the Saud prince shows he can conduct smart business. The Saudis may have made a secret deal with Powell by telling Powell that they would have to lie to their people but that they are telling the truth to Powell.

Get it? Arabs lose wars because their generals are only there because of bakshish. Their scientists are there for the same reason. There is not one aspect of their lives where competence is the criteria for position. Period.
Except for Terrorists, that is one part of life where killing is the only criteria.

The A380 does not mark the beginning of a new stage in commercial aviation; it is the crowning achievement of a bygone era (I love that one). An era when passengers had to deal with multiple connections and few flight choices. Industry data from the past 10 to 15 years is clear: demand for air travel is up, the number of flights and the number of cities with non-stop services is up, yet the average size of airplanes flying today is down.
Sure hope Boeing is right. Meanwhile, here is how the good old French lead the EU into "business." Airbus is not only subsidized, but the Europeans resort to blackmail...

The A380, of course, is the pride of Old Europe: the new super jumbo jet just announced by Airbus. The EU always insists that its below-market rate loans and grants to Airbus aren't subsidies.
Blackmail is not a subsidy. Airbus executives once boasted of their readiness to 'give the planes away,' if necessary, to seize market share from American rivals. Now they are bankrupting helpless countries. Who says colonialism is dead? Randy closes with this one:
Consider that Airbus says London's Heathrow will use the most A380s during the next two decades. Yet, the 747's share of departures at Heathrow hasn't changed during the past twenty years. Airbus lists Tokyo's two airports and Hong Kong's as major A380 hubs. But at those three airports, the 747 as a percentage of departures is about half of what it was in the 1990s. If large airplanes solve congestion, the 747 departures would have been going up.

Either Airbus knows for certain that the trends of the past 10 to 15 years are about to do an immediate U-turn, or it has misread the state of aviation as it really is today and where it's going in the future.

Markets and Economy As most of you know I'm an IBD guy and the usual indicators don't affect me at all. I do know that I don' t invest in new stuff when the major indexes are down, and they are down right now. My five stocks are not down, and I credit Bill O'Niel at IBD for all that. And no, I don't work for him and don't get money from him, dam it.

What I think all of you should look at over the next few days or weeks is water. We are approaching the time where water could be more important than oil. The major countries like China and India are approaching crises proportions in terms of potable water supply. Their major rivers are hoplessly polluted and as populations leave the farms and jam into the cities things are getting serious. The major long term player must be aware of companies that are in the water purification or desalinization business. A good reading sources for starters is HERE. Keep in mind that the American Southwest is virtually out of water right now and water cannot be shipped from place to place economically.

One thing not covered by all the smart guys is the millenia known fact that silver is the greatest water purifier known. Period.
Silver was used to provide shuttle crews with pure water for drinking, air conditioning, food preparation and other operations. By establishing 100 parts of silver per billion parts of water NASA will totally eliminate the need for chlorine! The most dramatic purification tests occurred in 1976 in a 20,000 gallon swimming pool in Nebraska. There was no disinfectant of any kind in the water. Fifty gallons of municipal sewage waste water was put into the pool. That produced a dangerous concentration of 7,000 E coli cells per 100 millilitre [half a cup] of water. Contents of the pool were then pumped through a tank containing alternating anodic and cathodic silver electrodes for disinfection. Within three hours the pool was entirely free of E. coli and the water contained only 3.2 parts of silver per billion parts of water
All the way back to the Ancient Greeks who placed silver coins at the botom of their casks, the Phoenicians who used silver casks, and American miners who used silver coins inside canteens and casks. Can it supress the HIV bacteria? Why not invest in silver? Because the government(s) are not pushing silver for anything. This in spite of the fact that silver is one of the most plentiful metals on earth. It is a by-product of every copper mine, is found throughout Mexico and South America, as well as India.

FREEDOM AROUND THE GLOBE? A STRONG MAYBE

Take on the Bush speech, sans God who was only mentioned four times. “Freedom” around the world is a feel good concept and, in an intellectual way, a noble purpose. I hope the Bush policy is a success and I hope I am wrong in what I see. My view does not mean that freedom is not worth trying, because it is. The success of freedom depends on other factors being present too: a good economy, a strong middle class, a high literacy rate, and low unemployment among young males.

I have had my doubts about a democratic Iraq from the very beginning. HERE and
HERE among others. I have these reservations even though almost every strong democracy has evolved from a strong dictatorship---that includes monarchies--- (look it up). Iraq's problem is that their dictatorship did not create a strong midle class or any respect for institutions; they feared the institutions and do not trust them.

First, where is Freedom unsuccessful? By that I mean, where in the world are there democratic forms that are forms only; where the economy is a shambles, literacy is less than 50%, no middle class, phony press freedom, an underclass of around 80% of the population, together with massive corruption?

Leaving out the obvious fakes let us take a quick look at South Africa, the darling example for the Left elite in our country. Highest murder rate in the world–20 gun deaths per day—in a country the size of California. A violent crime is committed in Johannesburg every 17 seconds. The upside to all this violence is that beach property sells for 5% of what it does in California but the chances that you will live long enough to enjoy it if you buy it are the same as the 49ers winning this year’s Super Bowl.

The South Africans wanted a better life, instead they have been given the right to vote. The democratic forms are all European and French enlightenment and, I would argue, they are bereft of anything that the tribal Blacks have any history of using or wanting to use. The democratic forms are Left Wing white European, and if you want to see the typical nightmare of white liberals “analyzing” South Africa, just go HERE. Their elections are even worse than Washington State, Wisconsin, and Florida combined; the last number available showed a million phony votes cast. No surprise that fewer and fewer people are bothering to vote, other than with guns. A single party—African National Congress--- gets 80% of the vote (a fair count) which means the ANC party governs absolutely without any real opposition possible. And keep in mind that South Africa may be the most democratic of all the so-called free countries in Africa. The list of “free” countries as posted by all the usual suspects include---The PEOPLES Republic of China, People's Democratic Republic of Algeria, Democratic People's Republic of Korea (that’s NORTH Korea, folks), Great Socialist People's Libyan Arab Jamahiriya (Lybia to you philistines out there)----and many other fakes. To be fair many smaller countries, while not democratic in any sense we might recognize, are moving in a “freedom” direction.

Democracy of any kind cannot survive without a viable economy and middle class, a literacy rate above 65%, an unemployment rate of less than 15% and falling among young males–who in every case are responsible for 90% of all violent crime—a homogeneous population, and a respect for institutions. Everybody wants freedom. I want a Rolls Royce, a sex crazed subservient supermodel girl friend who will love only me, and twenty million dollars or so to throw around every year. Wanting is not the point. Working and sacrificing to get what you want is what counts.

Which brings us one more time to Iraq, home to the non homogeneous population of Kurds, Sunnis, and Shias who actually hate each other. A country where 40% of the young males are unemployed, where respect for established institutions, other than Muslim, does not exist, and an economy that manufactures nothing, grows barely enough food to feed the population, and has no service sector at all. Most important: Turkey now controls all their water supply and can cut them off in a nano-second. Their economy is oil and potential tourism. The Muslim religion demands Shiria law obtain in the country over civil law, they are intolerant of any free expression that challenges Muslim orthodoxy– Salman Rushdie is once again on death watch and our government pretends the execution of the Coptic Christians in Jersey is not a terrorist execution—and women in the work force? fuhgedaboudit.

Iraq is not a country. It is a map creation by the Brits and Frogs, a quickie so they could divvy up territory and get on with the sacking of colonies. There is no Iraq. At best there are three homogenous groups there that on their own could get along so long as all left the Kurds alone, or if the Kurds left them alone. The Kurds are not only the huge majority in Northern Iraq, they are a huge majority in southern Turkey, a threat to the Turkish government every day. Not only there, but they exist in great numbers in Iran and Syria. They are a constant threat everywhere because they were never a part of the maps laid out by the Colonial Powers. They were ignored as if they didn’t exist. They now smuggle goods across invisible borders with all countries in the area. Turkey has now dammed the Euphrates river as well as most others and is days away from controlling ALL the water entering Syria, Iraq, and Lebanon, which means that The Big Dog in the area is Turkey. Iraq has oil, which is the only reason the so-called country can exist. This cannot end well. There is not a real country in all the Middle East other than Turkey, and Israel. Always remember Israel. Lybia? Algeria? Sudan? All are simply map entries that no longer apply. And when you get to West Africa you have the same thing. There are no real countries there either, just lines on a map drawn by either colonial powers or by the UN. The entire continent from Africa through Iran has no real borders. They have only Islam. And Israel. And why Islam? Islam attracts the poor because it is the only religion that will fight for them. We are playing a card came while everyone else plays checkers. They don’t want democracy. They want Islam. Just wait. I just hope we can get out of there leaving some form of government where the input of the people means something, other than Jihad.

Does this mean we should just shine the Bush agenda to bring freedom everywhere? No. There are places where the factors are in place for democracy to emerge, and it could be that Iraq is one of those places. After all, Russia is the last place Marx expected Communism to succeed. Just don't expect anything but trouble if the dictators in Saudiville, Kuwait, and the rest of the Middle East are leaving prime time and going to the video stores. My bet is on Islam. The Iraqis want a better life, are they instead being given freedom?

Reports from across Iran are stating about the massive welcoming of President George W. Bush's inaugural speech and his promise of helping to bring down the last outposts of tyranny.

Millions of Iranians have been reported as having stayed home, on Thursday night which is their usual W.end and outgoing night, in order to see or hear the Presidential speech and the comments made by the Los Angeles based Iranian satellite TV and radio networks, such as, NITV or KRSI.

The speech and its package of hope have been, since late yesterday night and today, the main topics of most Iranians' conversations during their familial and friendly gatherings, in the collective taxis and buses, as well as, among groups of young Iranians who gather outside the
cities on the Fridays.

Many were seen showing the " V " sign or their raised fists. Most talks were focused on steps that need to be taken in order to use the first time ever favorable International condition.

Many Iranians, who were looking for the World's super power firm moral support and financial aid to credible secularist opposition groups, are know becoming sure that Mr. Bush's agenda is indeed to help them to gain Freedom, Secularity and Democracy. They do believe correctly that such way will avoid an unnecessary US invasion or military strike against Iranian facilities which will help the Mullahcracy to consolidate its illegitimate and unpopular power, while
causing heavy financial damages and human causalities.

What had always been missing in order to create a wide scale Iranian democratic revolution, such as what happened in Georgia, was till now a firm and noticeable World pressure on the Islamic regime and a trustable Opposition Council with a correct agenda.

Various reports from underground groups are stating that Iranians will be increasing the Civil Disobedience Movement by making more strikes and demos in the days ahead.
The Democrats have no comment.

She further lied----misunderstood?----the number of Californians killed in the Iraq war. She claimed 25% of the dead were from---sob sob---her home state. Fact is about 12% are from CA. Does the Los Angeles Times report any of this? Ho ho, that's rich.

Warren Buffett sees nothing but down for the dollar. Bullshit. He's trying to talk the dollar down because he's in stocks that are being hammered by a rising dollar. He doesn't have a very good track record on individual stocks. He's made all his money buying entire companies and installing his people in them in an advisory role. He lost nearly a billion in silver four or five yearrs ago, his stock portfolio lost a staggering ten billion in 2001. He lost big time when he got into the airline business. He has large holdings in two major banks that may have bet incorrectly on the dollar, something they've done before. He is said to be a major foreign currency holder and a rising dollar will hurt him badly. He made another bad bet on the trade deficit. Buffett has held some of his stocks for decades and he has a small---for him---holding in a foreign company. Reportedly he is sitting on $27 billion in cash because he feels the market is over valued. The action has been in the small cap stocks---S&P 600 and Russell----and he buys very expensive stocks. The dollar has bottomed.
Response to emails Re; the 27bil. You can't believe everything you read but Buffett has a difficult time buying stock without moving the market. You cannot just buy 27 billion dollars worth of anything. The genius of Peter Lynch, the fund manager at Fidelity, was his ability to buy or sell huge quantities of stock or bonds without disturbing markets. How he did it is public knowledge should you want to know.

Many of us were wary of what was posted on "The Model," as we are wary of most of what we read anywhere, and I recall my own speculation regarding CIA connections. The Model has always seemed so knee jerk pro-American and it was so well written when compared to "genuine" Iraqi blogs. So the guys show up at the White House in an invisible limo, disguised as Claude Raines in the "Invisible Man", meet with Page Six people, and think nobody will notice? Somehow their lives are in danger? So what the hell were they doing here? More and more the blogs have nothing to talk about other than the NYT, LAT, WaPo, and CBS. Wake me when somebody has something original to say.

Confessions of a teenage asshole: I confess I don't think much about Martin Luther King Day, and I've joked about Blacks more than I should. However, after I read the "Letter from the Birmingham Jail" that King wrote to some organizations who thought he should mind his own business and stay out of Dodge, I changed my mind. Incorrect link yesterda. If you missed it, it's here and more than well worth reading, especially if you are like me and were of a low opinion of King.

A really feel good about America story on the BBC, link via NoPasaran. Before the Marshall Plan there was Hoover helping after WWI. We have a longer track record of helping people than I realized. Here's my two bits on the Seymour Hersh "U.S. is spying on Iran" piece in the New Yorker.

1. This is a leak from the White House and I'll bet anything it is to cover up the fact that we HAVE NOBODY in Iran in spite of two years of time to do it.
A. As I've commented many times before, it is next to impossible to infiltrate a Muslim anything. This is because they marry within their familes (cousins) and everybody knows everybody.
2. Seymour Hersh is a Left Wing agenda journalist and he'd tip off secret plans in a nano-second and not care a wit who he killed in doing so. Therefore I don't think anybody tells him anything secret they don't want published.
3. If we do have anybody in Iran they are spying on date pickers or garbage collectors.
4. Syria is another matter and we may well have people there because they are Baathists and there are lots of loose foreigners in the country.

Very late add at 1:30PM PST: I guess I have no monopoly on the above POV. It seems every blogger from here to Iraq sees it the same way. Well, everybody but the Left who don't seem to notice the story at all.

Suppose you looked at the United States through a magical lens that showed you that the central purpose of America is creation of poverty throughout the world just so we can make money. Wouldn’t that piss you off? Particularly if you had proof? Wouldn’t you say that since we victimize every country that is poor we need to be brought down? Suppose you were taught all this in school? Isn’t it possible you’d hate your own country? Looking at things that way you will understand the American Left.

Why is the Left against the war in Iraq? Why is it supportive of Fidel Castro? Why did they say nothing while Mugabe caused 200,000 of his own citizens to starve to death? Why are they getting kissy face with Iran? Why are they mostly anti-Semitic? American Jews were once the cornerstone of Liberalism. But then the slave screwing Jefferson was once the cornerstone of our culture til fashionable Ivies got to him.

Communism has always been a movement with a dedicated following as intense as religious fanaticism. The Marx Lenin show was a fantasy based on mathematical “proofs” first presented in Das Kapital (soon to be a musical by Oliver Stone) and philosophical ruminations by every “great” thinker. Great thinkers attracted lesser thinkers that attracted other people who would rather think about things than work. All shared the same attitude toward things spiritual, religious, or non-scientific: they were false. "Religion is the opiate of the masses" became a rallying cry. God is dead. Everything wrong with the human condition could be explained through economics, the flows of capital, the surplus values created by business, and the exploitation of labor. It would take an armed revolution or war to correct things for the exploited working class.

Well, that movie went straight to the video stores and all the bright people knew that things had to change if Communism was to be anything other than left overs in a garbage can. So Communism changed. It has become “progressive,” Left, Moral Conscience, and a ton of other nice sounding names. I wrote a major piece a few months back that exposed the New Communism, an ideological movement that has never died in spite of wishful writing from the Right.

So, with a careful wardrobe switch, Communism changed. This new and modern “progressive” movement blames the West, and America in particular, for deliberately causing all the poverty in the world so that we can make money. And then “proves it.” Put in a nutshell this philosophy holds that the rich countries invest in poor countries for the purpose of creating surplus goods so they can take all the “surplus” for themselves leaving the host countries poorer and poorer. Call it surplus goods instead of “Groucho” Marx’s surplus value. They point to every Western owned enterprise in other countries as “proof.” Every denial of foreign aid is further “proof.” The misery of the populace in the Third World is created by the West so we can make money. Their new Das Kapital are a series of essays and books written by Paul Baran (not the internet guru), Immanuel Wallerstein, and Paul Sweezy. All these authors, together with forty or so others are taught in colleges as fact.

The view of the current Left is that America and the rest of the First World deliberately cause poverty in the Developing Countries so we can get richer at the expense of the poorer host country. The workers in Third World countries are too dumb and too poor (helpless: the Left is always helping the helpless) to see what is happening to them. They are prevented from realizing that their cheap labor is turned into profits that will be sent outside of their country. The poorer and more desperate we make the workers the more docile the work force. The host county’s government partners with the exploitative dominant business countries hoping to share in the wealth, but unknowingly allows business to steal the surplus goods created by their labor force. As the New Left sees it, the only solution to World poverty is the destruction of the economies of the top countries that create it. This instead of armed revolution within the elites.

Viewing the world through this lens the Left can view all terrorists as representing the downtrodden; all downtrodden can be uptrodden if it weren’t for “Amerika.” Islam is a victim of American exploitation; it is we who made them poverty stricken so we could exploit them for profit—the wars against terror are actually wars to seize their oil even if, as in Afghanistan, they don’t have any. All of Africa is better than Amerika, and the Left views almost all of Asia as being better than America too. That is because we are the cause of their poverty. We have deliberately caused all poverty everywhere so we could get richer and richer. Using this POV one can see why the Left loves all the dictators, because every fascist government in the world controls a poverty stricken country. These countries are made poor not by the dictators but by the bad old USA. Islam is OK, but the successful dirty Jews are exploiters of the Palestinians whom the Jews deliberately made poor so the Jews could make money..

It follows that the purpose of the Left within “privileged” countries (Europe and the US) is to continually undermine the successful so that all economies can be made equal. Hate Bush, weaken America. Attack every successful person or company, every company product (Microsoft, MacDonald’s, Medicine in general), and every American purpose (war in Iraq, stay out of Iran, etc.) and you will weaken power hungry America, the one deliberately making countries poor. They support Muslim madrassa terrorism in this country to weaken this country, not for any concern for rights.

At first it might seem strange that the Left has never mentioned Zimbabwe, the place where Mugabe deliberately starved 200,000 of his own citizens to death. Especially silent were our moralistic American Blacks. Suppose the Great Satan had gone down there and saved people? That wouldn’t have been good. It would have made America look good to Black Africa and maybe even to Black America. Airdropping food and medicine would have relieved starvation and lots of people would have been grateful. So the Left kept quiet. It was just like the old days when Stalin murdered millions and the American Left stood by. The same can be said about staying out of the Sudan. The Hollywood Left was conspicuously absent at the donation table for Tsunami Relief. Maybe the left was of the opinion that we created the coastal villages so we could exploit the local populations with no risk to ourselves. We despoil their environment so we could get rich and enjoy ourselves. We donate money now so we can steal it later.

American lawyers, wittingly and unwittingly, aid their cause by destroying business after business—asbestos suits, tobacco suits, drug company suits—and threatening many more into increasing their costs of doing business. Most lawyers side with the Left Democratic party so they can make a killing, but their money helps energize the Left. Medical malpractice suits will force doctors into lawsuit proof Socialized Medicine, and Socialized Medicine will drain the economy, making it weaker. The old line Communist National Lawyers Guild stands ready to further the cause. They have stated very clearly that they see their function this way:
.....the role of the radical lawyer (is) to facilitate the coming anti-capitalist revolution by weakening the law’s ability to function effectively against law-breaking radicals
The ACLU has become a Leftist organization. Destroying the Christian religion is a prime goal of the Left because they know that a people stripped of their spiritual center is adrift on the sea of situational ethics, which in all cases can be led anywhere by “secular” elites. Environmental groups act to restrict business and seize land from isolated individuals for State use.

Why is the Democratic party controlled by educated well off elites and not worker bees? Workers don’t count in elite Democratic thinking anymore. That is because under the new Communist—whoops “progressive”—doctrine, blue collars have joined with the Capitalists. Workers are part of the problem to our current Left elite. They own cars, stock, homes and play golf---all at the expense of the Third World poor---and aren't interested in reform. Forty percent of union members voted Republican in ‘04, something lost on everyone, including the clueless Republicans. Especially including the Republicans. The workers “get” that contained within the Left ideology something is bad for them. Some think their religion is under attack or their life styles are threatened, or that their values are considered bad. They can’t quite put their fingers on it but they just know something ain’t right in Progressive Politics.

As a footnote to all this, our culture and universities are dominated by the exclusionary Left. They have long been in control of news media, college faculties, and our culture: movies, plays, literature, and art. That explains the totally leftist movie and book reviewers in major media, the asinine art criticism, and the inclusion of hip hop and other pornography on to the Left OK list. Their purpose is as old as Lenin when all media had be a part of the “class struggle.” Now all art is a part of destroying the old culture, a culture which in their view has as its central purpose the causation of Third World poverty. All art should be an agent in the destruction of religion, ethical standards, and sexual morality in dominant cultures. That is why college faculties are fighting tooth and nail to keep conservative voices out of academia. They know that conservatives will not buy into all this and will create an open debate. Open debate has always been opposed by Communists, as have all elections.

As an exercise for yourself, just try looking at things through a lens that shows all U.S. policy as aimed at the impoverishment of the Third World so we can make money. The purposes of “progressives” will be clear.

And if all this makes you depressed, go here for relief.

When you think of agenda politics dominating everything you can start and stop with Debbie. She is in the business of attacking anything she considers Left and when she needs to cook up a column and has nothing in what passes for her brain to write about she will choose a movie. Any movie. They are all Hollywood commies anyway, right? She is supposedly a lawyer and fictional movies are a libel proof target. There are a lot of decent people in Hollywood and Clint Eastwood is certainly among them. Dare he step over rigid guidelines there are people like Schlussel around to label him a Nazi, a commie, or whatever they choose that is sensational enough to be published.

Censors will eventually see filth in the crotch of every tree, the fascist hunters will see Hitler in every pulpit, the commie hunters will see Lenin in every boardroom. This "review" is what a lot of people fear about the Right. It is an invention. A smear job. I can take any story and slant my observation of it any way I choose. Congress to raise Military Death benefit to $100,000. Right now it is $12,000 which makes moot a part of my posting on Military pay and benefits.
.....a bipartisan push in Congress is seeking to increase death benefits to $100,000. Several states are also moving to increase death benefits for their National Guard (search) and Reserve forces.

Lawmakers working on the increase say while they can't measure the cost of freedom, the payment for a battlefield death isn't nearly enough.

"You can't value a life. But we know that we can do a lot better than $12,000 for the families of those who have given their lives in our defense," said Sen. Joe Lieberman (search), D-Conn.

Today's Treasury report on the nation's finances for December shows a fiscal 2005 year-to-date deficit that is already $11 billion less than last year's. After the first three months of the fiscal year beginning last October, cash outlays increased by 6.1% overall, while tax collections grew by 10.5%. Consequently, the 2005 deficit is on track to drop to $355 billion from $413 billion in FY 2004.
Translation: tax revenues are UP while tax rates are down. Shhhhh, don't tell the MSM. While all this is not reported, keep in mind that the Republicans are spending like no tomorrow. Tax collections are way up from workers, from business, and from the lower captial gains taxes----HOWEVER, but, see it's like this, and so on--
However, with the flood of new revenues, this year's federal budget is still overspending. Domestic non-entitlement program spending excluding homeland defense is rising at a 4.1 rate, more than twice the pace of core inflation.

Walter Reed Army Hospital, the one where soldiers who have lost limbs are assigned, has no gym, no physical therapy center, and no rehab program worth of the name. Want more? They all have to pay for their own phone calls and they don't have the money to do so. Some patients have to stay in hotels because there is no room to care for them. I predict that these fucking Republicans, who have become exactly like the Democrats in that they are sealed from the public, are going to start losing. The hospital staff is working 70- or 80-hour weeks, and Walter Reed is so full that it has taken over beds normally reserved for cancer patients to handle the influx. In Britain, the Left is screaming at American torturers and fascists as "their" prisoners come home----1000 Days of Hell, says the not so Independent. Only thing is that Brit intel has put them on a watch list that will cost Britain a million dollars per man per year. These are bad guys. These are terrorists. Most, if not all, who have been released went right back to terrorism, some went back to Pakistan where they were involved in murder and kidnapping.

Belmont is one of the top people on the web, but I disagree heatedly with some of the things he is saying today. First, his comments on the ammo are way off. He is talking about guarding the ammo dumps with another 100,000 troops. Our problem stems from the fact that the CIA completely missed the ammo dumps before the war. The solution, then as now, was to blow the dam things up, not guard them with 100,000 troops. The more troops on the ground argument can be turned to say “the more targets on the ground.” The more targets the more hard sites we have for them to stay in and be bombed.

We face an insurgency of Muslims. More specifically a tiny minority of Sunni Muslims and a ton of Baathists from the old regime. Muslims marry within their own families (cousins) so it is next to impossible to send some outsider in to spy. If you ain’t family you are dead. Spying on these guys can only be accomplished by “turning” someone. Keep in mind that we turned a lot of Russians. We never penetrated the Kremlin, nor did they penetrate us. All their guys who spied on us here were traitors. We never came close to penetrating the Nazi high command even though we had plenty of people who spoke the language fluently and knew the culture. Spying is very tough.

Our only strategy for Iraq is to build an Iraqi army and security force capable of handling things. It is only they that can “turn” people inside Muslim groups. If we equip Iraqis with our weapons, train them properly, and if they are motivated, democracy will win. Do not confuse this insurgency with a guerilla war. A guerilla war is carried out by soldiers hiding inside a willing populace. They have some sort of ideology that offers the people something different that all think will make their lives better. These guys are just terrorist thugs offering more of Saddam. They have no chance. They have no hard bases. Syria is just a pain in the ass and the same can be said of Shia Iran.

Iraqis can win this thing. It’s there for the taking. Period. There have been free elections in Afghanistan. Another in Palestine. Most of the Arab states are moving in a direction to allow some kind of input from their people. We ARE winning this thing right now. It’s ugly. It’s tough. Guys are getting killed. But at least five times as many Iraqis are being killed and they still show up for jobs and they are still going to vote.

It will take time, but time is on our side not theirs. Belmont's recitation of the Baghdad poll needs to be looked at. WE ARE WINNING.

The entire web community wants Dan Rather to be hung. I disagree. Rather simply crossed over into mental decay quite early when compared to lots of people. Some people start to lose it in their fifties. Rather is in his seventies and I think he started to lose it about ten years ago. The Wall Street Journal thinks that a crooked election in Washington State should be overlooked. This morally bankrupt view is on full display in all its, well in all its slimy logic. The Republicans were robbed in Washington but they are to go softly into that dark night.

There were reports that hundreds (more than 500) of voters were registered in storage rental facilities and private mailboxes, that felons had voted, and that military ballots were sent out too late to be counted. Then we learned that several hundred provisional ballots had simply been fed into voting machines, making it impossible to authenticate their legality. Now it turns out the number of votes cast in King County exceeds the total number of voters by about 1,800.
Dead people vote, others vote twice, and military votes are deliberately stalled, but according to the Journal its all OK. Read it and puke. I used to know this young Republican who was trying to write a novel about balancing the budget. His anger at not being able to come up with something deep and meaningful drove him to drugs, homosexuality, and toward the end, crime. I remember talking to him between his homosexual period and his crime period about his writing the great Right Wing Novel.

“You know I’ve got this bi-sexual butch bitch that represents liberals; who are, you know, just fucking with all of us while they rob us. Telling us what a great in bed we are, blowing us, and then going home and doing the rug munch boogie with our wives. The cat rides day and night, taking what he wants, getting laid, beating people up who fuck with him and enjoying his freedom but never spending beyond his means. Well he meets this bi-bitch in a country-western joint in Fresno. She is dressed in tight jeans, has great tits and ass, and just has these huge blow job lips. Sexy as hell. It was just that he had no idea how to get there logically and besides he didn’t know what killing the bitch had to do with balancing the budget.

I only mention this now because his problem reminds me of our situation in Iraq. We know the ending but we have no idea on how to get there without killing everybody who is against us.

I heard El Rushbo for a few minutes this AM and he is like all the Democrats when confronted with an ethics question. He finds a similar dishonesty among the Dems and then blasts the press for glossing over it. We're not talking about Bill Clinton. We are talking about Armstrong Williams and only Armstrong. How bad is the SoCal Storm? It's nothing to most of you. Four or five days of rain that drop six inches of moisture is just annoying. But SoCal is a near desert. Annual rainfall rarely exceeds twelve inches. Our vegetation is almost all imported from somewhere else; the trees, plants, and some grasses are not natural to the area. BUT, since we are a near desert the plants and trees spread their roots horizontally; they do not send them deep into the ground. So when an unusual amount of rain falls on our shallow rooted plant life it begins to give way. I have lived here for thirty years and I've never experienced a storm of this duration. When I lived in NoCal a storm like this would have been considered nothing. SoCal roads that never develop potholes are crumbling. Roofs collapse from the weight of accumulations of rain water. Entire hills move. Disruptions to truck transportation, ship unloadings, and the ruination of surfing due to the fucking winds make life miserable. The cactus plants floating down the storm drains are not good visuals, movie stars find threir drug connections are stalled on a freeway, Malibu Lefties can't be heard blaming Bush for the tragedy. Poor us. Get your federal aid dollars ready.

More than 300 military personnel who were sent their absentee ballots too late to return them have signed affidavits saying they intended to vote for Mr. Rossi. Some 1 out of 20 ballots in King County that officials felt were marked unclearly were "enhanced" with Wite-Out or pens so that some had their original markings obliterated.

The goal of the Left will always be to destroy our culture, Constitution, and Independence making us subservient to the government and the UN. Can you see this UN army of thieves, rapists, and kidnappers in lower Manhattan after 9/11 demanding that New Yorkers wait for the UN while they looted buildings and kept everybody at arms length as they robbed and pillaged? Keep in mind that these lefties would prefer involuntary taxing of the population so that they can dictate to the Government who the "right" aid provider is---and guess who that might be? "Right people" means no Salvation Army, Catholic Charities, or Baptist Charities need donate anything. Other than to the UN. The Left agenda includes the destruction of Christianity in the U.S. as well. When you consider all this it just might explain the near total absence of the Entertainment and Artistic Left in the giving line. Right now private donations approach the $300 million mark and corporate donations are close to $200 million (not counted is the $10 million plus per day being run up by our military help). Predictions are that the total private and government giving will approach $1.5 billion. The Left is still pissing and moaning that our Government isn't giving enough. Well if the Government is the People the People are giving plenty.

But that doesn't mean everybody in the U.S. is giving. To the Left, everybody must be forced to give, even if 60% don't want to give. Squeeze every human being in the country to donate, that is their idea of compassion and democracy. The Left would prefer to steal it from us and "donate" to their designated kleptocratic agency. The beat goes on.

When blood and brutality become art------

Ali in his heyday was the near perfect marriage between violence and art. His skills made the blood caused by his punches seem necessary and natural, the perfect result of almost unseen blows. I felt that way again yesterday watching the Baltimore Indianapolis Colts score 35 points during 30 minutes making it appear that the most violent game on earth was actually gentle; that the hits on receivers were carefully composed film edits, graceful, and almost delicate. The brain quaking tackles and train wreck collisions between blocking linemen and linebackers were hidden by the magical faking mastery of Manning and the acrobatic catches of his receivers; Manning could have been posing for holy pictures as he dropped back to pass. His offensive line protected him that well. They made it look like it was against the rules to tackle him; it was as if there were no danger at all; just the artist, his canvass, and his football.

It won't be like that next week against New England. At least I don't think it will be like that but one never knows what Modigliani will think of next.

Under the Headline Mysterious jet tied to torture flights is a CIA outing by the Chicago Tribune that has to make us think (link is to Yahoo). But not about what the America hating Left wants us to think. My thought is, what the hell is the CIA doing in such a slopply operation that any reporter who sniffs gets a snoot full? This isn't even a bad movie. What a bunch of assholes. The story details a shadow company set up by a mystery man nobody knows or ever heard of, at an address everybody knows, with a phone number that links to CIA HQ in Langley, and a secretary who flunked spying class. Twice. And it also makes it pretty clear that we were flying prisoners to other countries to be worked, knowing that these guys might eventually be released. The CIA is one of our worst agencies. It is sickening.

Want a laff? The NFL playoff game between Colts and Broncos has no sound in SoCal. Instead we have some left wing American Indian revolutionary station. And the commercials are down too. CBS has bad luck today. Bad luck. The radio feed is OK. True to Adelphia Cable form, they don't inform audience at all.

Investigators from the House International Relations Committee said several current and former officials in Iraq's Oil, Health and Transportation ministries have told them that U.N. staffers assigned to the "661 Committee" — the U.N. Security Council group that oversaw sanctions and approved oil-for-food contracts — regularly took bribes and kickbacks from suppliers of aid to Iraq during the program.

The Iraqi ministry officials said the U.N. staffers, based in New York, were paid to accelerate approval of oil-for-food contracts or provide secret information on why certain suspicious contracts with Saddam Hussein's regime were blocked by the 661 Committee, investigators said.
Already a guy from Charity Watch stated on FOX that thirty percent of the aid arriving in the affected areas will be stolen, by governments, by locals, and by others.

Markets and Economy: my few stocks are doing real well, I haven't touched any in months, so I've not been paying much attention to the real engines of the economy: commodities. Gold, one of the main ones, is headed south (down $40) as the dollar roars. The CRB index of commodities, still higher than it's been in most of our lifetimes, is down big time. There is a weak El Nino that is causing some damage to the anchovies off SA (slightly higher fertilizer prices) and the drought relieving rains in the American Southwest have caused all reserviors to be filled to capacity for the first time in five years. Soybeans are down more than $2, cheaper feed costs; corn is down a third which also means cheaper feed costs. China is trying to cool their economy so they will import fewer commodities; copper prices will also come down as the dollar and interest rates go up: cheaper building costs. You all know oil prices are down AS THE DOLLAR GOES UP which means the Arabs lose nothing to falling prices. Again, the dollar slide is OVER as I've posted here many times.

AND BUSH WAS RIGHT, or at least the White House economic prognosticators were right, as 2.3 million new jobs were created in 2004, the highest since the bubble year of 1999. Unemployment could fall as low as 5% or even less. Why? Women are staying home to take care of their children when economically possible due in large part to studies showing the ill effects of "child care" on young children, and probably the emotional need of women to care for their young when they can in spite of feminist cant. Next is the booming economy which is creating jobs and the realization that any monthly job number over 98,000 means job creation and we have been averaging nearly 200,000 per month. Lastly there are kids staying in school (because they can afford to) and earlier retirement (something that is never constant).

It is a sad commentary to note that all this good news is bad news to the Democrats.

Looking way out: Britain will begin to run out of oil in four to five years. This could spell near catastrophe for both England and the world. Look for problems in all economies as the world begins to realize this. The much touted "hybrid engines" for cars only results in about a ten percent reduction in fuel consumption in large vehicles like trucks. Why trucks and not cars? Because the fucking electric motors plus batteries are so goddam heavy that it takes a truck to haul them around efficiently. So far you will note that hybrid cars are small. That's so nobody can get into them and add weight. In addition, the mileage improvement sucks. And it really sucks and sucks. More BS from the envirowhackos.

The "Turd" World And The High Priest Vulture Elite (the UN) at Diplomad. You have to read it. Haven't seen such a trashing of something since....well since the critics saw Alexander. I always assume that those who read me also read Diplomad, if you don't you are missing something special.

Look for a return to the old system. The problem with this disconnected season is that there is no local interest without a near local team. Nobody in SoCal was interested in seeing either Texas or Michigan do anything. Nobody in Florida was interested in seeing either USC or Oklahoma, unless one of them faced a SEC team. And it is easier to sell a conference rivalry around the country than conning the people in Chicago to watch USC vs Oklahoma. USC vs Michigan in the Rose Bowl would have resulted in huge ratings (all the cities in the Pac Ten and all the cities in the Big 10) as would USC vs Auburn in the Orange Bowl or Oklahoma vs Auburn in the Orange. Late Add: via the very very local Sports by Brooks---USC-OU tickets would have cost you only $10 at game time. I thought I saw some vacant seats on TV. There were a lot more than a few.

How much help do these bigoted Tsunami victims deserve? They are bigots in the best Muslim tradition. As far as donating, you have to watch The great Charity Game where compensation packages for executives are obscene. However among the Tsunami fund raisers only the American Red Cross has excessive executive compensation where the president receives 1.3 million per year. No list of the locals. The much touted American Institure of Philanthropy is useless. You have to send them money to get a rating. The best for us to use is BRJ. Here you will find that the highly touted Oxfam ain't the place. They have a bad BBB rating due to dodgy fundraising through cc and phone solicitations; in other words they are crooks. Charity Watch has a list you can use. Problem is that Christian orgs like the Salvation Army which has a terrific donation to recipient record does not have a track record of operating in SE Asia because they are a Christian group in a Muslim area. It may be that the Red Cross, an org I personally cannot stand, actually gets the money to where it is needed better than the rest. Jewish and Catholic charities can't get into Muslim countries; the same for Baptist and other Christian charities. Sri Lanka is refusing to accept Jewish donations, so I say fuck them. Anyway don't think, just give and forget it.


BIGOTRY ON CAMPUS IS NOTHING NEW

Our university faculties have a long history of bigotry. Simon has a post about anti-Semitism that is becoming more boring by the moment. Anti-Semitism is a virtual course at our major universities sponsored by administrators and faculty. The WSJ has an op-ed today about Duke. But it's also Stanford, Michigan, CAL-Berkeley (an actual quasi-Nazi hot bed) and the rest. Most of us can't remember, but have to read up on what things were like in 1940. Jews were not allowed at any Ivy School other than Princeton which had a quota system. Jews were banned from most university faculties other than University of Chicago. If you talk to post WWII vets who were guys of all religions with no money from all the white ghettos of the country, you will hear that the faculties at the universities hated all of them because they were not from the upper class. The faculties had to accept them because of the sheer numbers of veterans. Our universities have been biased for more than a century. They are true to themselves. Zieg Heil, rah rah rah.

USC destroyed not only Oklahoma, but the Big 12 as well. This is the second year that a Big 12 rep has been gutted and devoured in the Championship game and it will be a long time before any Big 12 team will grace the top 5. It was clear when Michigan, a two time loser and an offensive weakling, scored at will against Texas. CAL sold out but the Pac 10, SEC, and Big 10 are best. All of us out here knew SC was good, but they ain't THAT good. Oklahoma has no corners at all and no linebackers capable of pass coverage, but who can tell when you play in that sorry Big 12? BTW I think Bob Stoops, the Oklahoma coach, must have picked the talent for the halftime show too. Ashleigh Simpson has talent like Jason White can play quarterback. Oklahoma was out hit in the first five minutes and gave up. USC ain't the patsies in the Big 12.

Checking out where the UN people are staying in a FIVE STAR HOTEL, I did some searching on my own. There is but ONE Five Star Hotel in Sri Lanka. There are six in Indonesia, three in Jakarta and two are in Bali. Since Powell/Bush went to Jakarta we can assume that IF UN people are at a Five Star they are in Jakarta. OK. Where? I've now got my people looking.

Donation Watch: Banks have been raking in their 3% on cc donations. They have been forced to stop in Britain, I don't know about here. As far as I know Paypal will deduct. I sent cash to the Salvation Army. Suggest you send cash too. Ten bucks goes a long way.

The National Business Review out of New Zealand has basically picked up Diplomad's posts and boiled them down. They are blasting the UN as well but without telling us where these bureaucrats are staying and what foods are being catered. I think with the addition of a recognized news source somebody somewhere will get on this.

What Five Star Hotel? What are they eating? Who has seen the menues? I have a source inside a news outlet that is eager to report anything and he has told me that they cannot verify ANYTHING regarding UN bigwigs hanging out at Five Star Hotels. He has told me that Australian and U.S. presence is all over and not very much UN. Nothing from either China or the EU. Russia is sending five hundred pounds of KGB agents and the UAE is sending Korans, oil vouchers, and a Marc Rich instruction manual.

FAKE TSUNAMI AID SCAMS the telemarketing ads around here for "charity" indicate that these scams will start today. Do not give in response to ANY solicitation. Tell your friends. It happens after every catastrophe.

UN IS STEALING, AGAIN (STILL)

Well, we're heading into Day 7 of the Asian quake/tsunami crisis. And the UN relief effort? Nowhere to be seen except at some meetings and on CNN and BBC as talking heads. In this corner of the Far Abroad, it's Yanks and Aussies doing the hard, sweaty work of saving lives.
Forget all the UN assholes, just give something somehwere. Over a million people are homeless at last count----which may be another UN lie----but give anyway. Country Store has a long post that will piss you off, but at least you'll know what's going one....
I provided this to some USAID colleagues working in Indonesia and their heads nearly exploded. The first paragraph is quite simply a lie. The UN is taking credit for things that hard-working, street savvy USAID folks have done.

Entertaining as hell and a glimpse of how you can get your stuff out there.
